she quickly walks across her apartment as her eyes take in each word in the letter once again. as per custom, once she has memorized every detail, she first shreds the paper, then hurries to the kitchen where she burns it in the same particular bowl, and finally sets it aside to be used by the family gardener in making compost. simple and ritualistic.
sunyoung makes some green tea and sits by the large window next to the paper shredder, but it’s the afterthought that leaves a bitter taste in her mouth instead. your king, 2016. out of all club members, why him? and why such a pompous invitation? just like old times, she almost laughs to herself. as if they were a lovely bunch of misfits who had done nothing more than gone through the ups and downs of college life together. as if there are that many nice memories to reminisce about. as if the chessmasters are friends.
despite already being irritated by the mere notion of seeing them all again in one room, she clears her schedule to make sure she can make it. of course. it might be a stupid idea to attend, but it would be even worse to let them make decisions behind her back.
she sits and sulks for a while longer, then rolls her eyes at herself and gets up to go about the rest of her day. we don’t want to piss the alums off, now do we? she scoffs. why is no one ever worried about pissing her off anymore?

sunyoung knows shin junpyo and she’d been to the mansion once, years before, where she had a chance to get to know her nominee jung yoojin better. this all hits particularly close to home for her.
sunyoung was already annoyed about the whole thing before even arriving in jeju - there aren’t that many good memories for her from her time as a chessmaster and she dreads having to see everybody together again in the same room.
on top of that, her letter came signed as “your king, 2016”, her ex-fiancé. needless to say, that didn’t exactly make things better.
once arriving at the mansion and seeing all the similarities to the 2016 event, she is fully pissed off and will pick arguments with any and everyone and so much as looks her sort of wrong. for context, when hyungseo drowned and everyone blamed yoojin for the accident, some of that blame also fell on her as the one who nominated yoojin for the club; she lost alliances that day for standing up for yoojin, and it still haunts her to this day.
she is going to maybe possibly make tian fall in the pool right before dinner after accusing him of planning this entire ordeal (and she won’t be sorry for it)
she is definitely going to get into more fights during dinner time so if you want a screaming match with her, hit me up!
