What's your opinion on the idea that Dirk's robots may also be splinters of his - is he unintentionally splintering his soul to create them, or do they just naturally reflect parts of his personality since he designed them? (Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just noticed you included the robots on your dirk splinter artwork on dA and I'm interested to know what you think!)
Hello anon! I haven't forgotten your ask I've just been drawing these bots with bonus Lil Hal and writing up a response, this is a good question.
I initially thought it was a bit of both, but considering that Princes are an active destroyer class I think his soul splintering plays a larger role in the creation of his robots' identities. Dirk is a heart player whose aspect focuses around the soul: personality, emotions, identity, and a sense of self. And just in general, crafting and creating anything is going to involve imprinting a bit of its creator's style and heart in it. As a Prince of Heart, Dirk has the added affect of being particularly closely-connected to his splinters, including his robots. Like to the point where he mentions that the splinters haunt him, though I'm guessing his robots to a lesser extent. And being the destroyer of souls, it's very likely that Dirk inadvertently splinters himself in the process of creating his robots. All of them end up embodying some part of Dirk's personality or appearance, which he sees being reflected back at him. Dirk creates:
Sawtooth: An unbeatable rap bot that loosely resembles the older beta version of himself: wears a hat, tall, similar pants/leg style, and stoic presence (though maybe not the hidden missle launchers lol).
Squarewave: An easily beaten rap bot that is afraid of being ignored and having his heart broken. It is implied he is the embodiment of Dirk's insecurities externalized.
Lil Seb: A robot rabbit that fiercely protects Jane while also being the cause of some of her problems. And I've just summarized Dirk for Act 6 lmao.
Brobot: An identical-looking silent robot version of himself that obsessively spars with Jake to help him improve his combat skills and also realizes he has his own romantic feelings for Jake. He fucking rips his own uranium heart out and smashes it for Jake. A solid prince of heart moment.
