We just ran into Chris Ann Farhood, a 92Y School of the Arts student, in the halls. She's been taking painting classes here for 15 years! This is part of her Whimsical Cow series. See more of her beautiful work: http://chrisannfarhood-artist.com/
Mozart sits for our School of the Arts students in Wennie Huang's watercolor class.
Through mentoring, we need to encourage children to appreciate, support and learn from one another, as well as from master teachers and great artists; that’s where “maturity” comes from. Wherever you draw the line between “gifted” and “prodigy,” all children need individual care and guidance to help them shine, grow and become great human beings.

We’re at our 23rd Annual Art Center Student Exhibition opening! The theme of this year’s Art Center Annual Student Exhibition is line. Throughout the 20th century and continuing into our own, the concept of line has grown from its conventional definition as a moving point to one that is more expansive and experimental. Though line was traditionally associated with drawing and printmaking, today it embraces many disciplines. See the full Juror’s Statement above.
The exhibit runs through June 16 at our Weill Art Gallery. Come by and see it!
These are tears of joy!
Bili Scott is a Recanati-Kaplan dance scholar whose role model is Misty Copeland. We know how much inspiration and courage she finds in Misty, so we arranged for her to meet Misty in a private meet and greet after Misty’s event on Monday. As you can see, Bili was hysterically happy—she started crying as soon as she saw Misty. Misty gave her a big hug her and then started crying herself!
We’re grateful to have been part of such a meaningful meeting between two beautiful and talented women.
Bili was an excellent Recanati-Kaplan dance scholar and quickly worked her way up to the Ballet D class, which is our highest level. She is known for being hardworking, creative, and a wonderful role model for our younger dancers with a combination of natural ability, creativity, and determination. She was accepted as a dance major to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Bili will be receiving a Recanati-Kaplan scholarship tonight at the awards reception. What a week for Bili!
We're celebrating #InternationalDanceDay w/ some improvisational dance in our Harkness lobby. How are YOU expressing yourself today?
Vine brainstorming meeting in our Harkness Dance Center ends in candy stealing.
