not the original asker but your version of fantasy au has me having so many thoughts about knight enji as a medieval history lover - the most popular version of romance at the time was a low status knight in love with a woman of much higher status who sends him on quests etc to “prove his worth” - which i can totally see happening with your version you laid out with rei/enji…

also lots of thoughts re chivalry and enji’s canon intense sense of duty

NOW THIS I CAN YAP ABOUT, I love history, even if I’m not particularly knowledgable (I love research). Which is funny that I don’t vibe with fantasy much, I guess I like things being more rooted in the real world rather than magical worlds lmao

If I remember correctly, there’s a note from Horikoshi that Enji is SO lawful and rule-orientated that he’d stop at a red light when chasing a villain (makes me think of that Big Hero 6 car scene haha), so (putting aside his obsession/mental health and keep the core of his character) Endeavor is chivalrous to a FAULT (especially in the historical sense). The man stops an entire truck to save a woman; like maybe he could’ve picked her up or tackled her out of the way, but no, no truck-kun shenanigans today. Endeavor is never getting isekai-ed lmao.

He buys flowers and houses, he values his female colleagues as much as his male colleagues (Mirko, Burnin’), he’s very polite with Recovery Girl (pre-atonement as well), he’s big on his duties as a Pro-Hero (as a father…eh, there’s room for improvement lmao) and holds to Japanese traditions (matchmaking, shrine, all that) while still breaking the mould (I will never let go of that scene of him doing the dishes). The guy’s very rough around the edges but he’s SCREAMS samurai. In another life, he’d be Komamura from Bleach (also voiced by Tetsu Inada, cough cough).

He’s so Japanese it’s not even funny. It’s like he saw All Might’s Americanisms and said ‘fuck you’ haha

Wylan looks like he's in Shu Han! The round doorway and the hanging lantern look Chinese to me, and there's all the other parts with the Crows in places with pseudo-Asian decoration. Theory is that the Crows go to Shu Han to look for amplifiers (hence Nikolai paying them)

This is a heavily repressed gay man who obviously struggled with his romantic and sexual attraction to men from a young age because of his family’s structure and religion.

Saying that he doesn’t experience sexual attraction robs him of this tbh. When he clearly does. (I think of the scene in the nightclub where he makes the face at the sex room, and also the inherent eroticism of becoming a vampire, the fact that he’ll have a bf this season, etc.) I personally think designating a gay character as someone who doesn’t experience sexual/and or romantic attraction makes it extremely easy for homophobes to consume the material, and easy for the creators to claim how much representation they have for gay people. (If youre going to have an ace/aro character, they need to be front and center, not just a gay character who never has a relationship or a partner.)

(plus the man’s been thirsty for Nandor the time he’s been here and probably had his sexual awakening with Armand)
