The bat calls are coming in and before you know it we are deep into the Bat Maternity Season. Here is a little bit of information for you if you suspect you have bats. 1) BATS ARE FEDERALLY PROTECTED - NO BATS CAN BE HARMED DURING THE BAT REMOVAL PROCESS. 2) We are licensed by the DNR to remove bats from attics, walls or voids. Anywhere in a building. Never have a handyman or roofer deal with bats, and never have us do their work. Neither are qualified. Someone not recognizing bat sign could seal up a gable vent, sealing the bats in the house, this could kill them or force them into the home. 3) Bats are vector species. This simply means they are capable of carrying the rabies virus. Do NOT come in direct contact with a bat. If a bat scratches you or bites you, you need to capture the bat and take it to the hospital and tell them it bit you and you might have been exposed to rabies. They will send it to the health Department for testing. The bat will have to die for the test. All this means is if you have been bit or scratched please seek medical help and get the vaccinations. It is no big deal these days --- not like in old days with 14 huge shots in your stomach. If you need help, we are realists and not alarmists.
