Hey maybe someone should investigate where the Barbegezi is... obviously you can't trust these OSM people. What if they're in trouble? - Hecate
Patton left the van for the first time since the man had driven up to them to hand Roman the bottle of water he’d been sent to fetch. The man looked him over as he exited, his eyes landing on Patton’s ears once more. Patton hated when people looked at his ears like that. They were the only thing that betrayed what people assumed was fae ancestry somewhere in his bloodline. It was so far removed it didn’t even show up on the blood tests he’d gotten from the state before being put in a human orphanage, but people still didn’t like that he had them. This scary man didn’t seem to like them even more than most people. Patton found himself hiding behind Logan a bit.
Roman seemed to not know what to do with the water bottle once it was handed to him. He looked awkwardly at the man. “Can, uh, I give this to him?” he asked.
The man looked him over for a moment, but then shrugged. “Sure,” he replied. He shared some sort of look with the woman who’d been standing on top of their truck for the last few minutes to keep watch, and then led them towards the back of the truck.
Patton peered out from behind Logan when the back doors were open only to see bars.
“You put him in a cage?” Logan asked. A ‘cage’ was probably a bit over the top. It was more like a prison cell and a slightly roomy one at that (for being in a moving vehicle), but still, he was clearly locked in there.
“Well, he was recently bitten,” the man said. “So far he hasn’t turned, but we wouldn’t want to take any unnecessary risks, would we Ben?”
