Let's Go Back to Bed (Brian JohnsonxFem!Reader Smut)
Masterlist
Word Count: 3.4 K
CW: SMUT (but luckily an aged-up Brian/reader. They’re like 20-21?): This entails oral sex, female receiving; unprotected penatrative vaginal sex; some light dirty talk. Other stuff: family disagreements/feeling like they’re not living up to expectations; fluff
A/N: I have written one actual smut before, and that was for like, a private request. So I hope y’all enjoy. I don’t think I’ve ever written something and posted same-day, but I was excited for this one. Also, name your cat whatever you’d like, but in my head, he’s a tuxedo cat named Buster.
Synopsis: Reader is at the end of their college years, sharing an apartment with Brian. An upsetting family phone call makes reader convince Brian to take the day off to spend time together...just the two of them. Based on/songfic for Morning Song by Jewel References to Electric Blue and Good Boy, but they’re not necessary reads to understand this.
Let the phone ring, let's go back to sleep
The sound was jarring and made you remember that weekends were far too short. You glanced at the clock on your nightstand and saw that it was only seven in the morning. You weren’t sure who would have the gall to call this early; it wasn’t business hours and anyone that knew you would know you valued your sleep, particularly on a Monday morning. However, Brian was already awake and padding to the kitchen to get the phone and stop that awful ringing, for which you would be eternally grateful. You turned over and tried to fall back asleep, but as the minutes ticked by, you started to wonder why he hadn’t returned to bed yet. Who would call at seven AM and then keep him occupied for so long, rather than spend the limited morning minutes you had together? You got up and wandered into the kitchen as well. When you locked eyes with him, you couldn’t help but smile. It didn’t matter that you’d been dating since high school, that you’d been together almost longer than you could count on one hand, he still gave you butterflies just to look at him.
Let the world spin outside our door
You're the only one that I want to see
However, he didn’t return the expression; his eyebrows were furrowed instead and he looked irritated. You sidled up behind him and wrapped your arms around him, embracing him from behind. He acknowledged you then, placing a hand on your arm as he continued on the phone and you rested your head on his shoulder. “I know, Mary. I said I’ll be there. I didn’t forget, I--” That made sense, Mary was a teenager now and an even bigger pain in the ass to him now than when she was younger. It was also plausible that she was calling before leaving for school, which probably didn’t seem odd or rude to her. Oh, to be young again, you thought. “We. Will. Be. There. Just--just go to school.” He didn’t wait for a response and reached over your head to place the phone back on the receiver, letting out a frustrated sigh.
“What was that all about?” You asked, softly, since your lips were still right near his ear and he seemed upset anyway.
“Mary decided to call and remind me that it’s mom’s birthday this week, that they’re doing the party for her this weekend.”
“You mean the event that’s been circled on our calendar for more than a month?” You smiled, thinking about the ridiculousness of her unnecessary call.
“Yes, exactly that. But she seems to think that we--I’ll forget and won’t show up and disappoint mom. ‘Like you always do,’ as she put it.” You groaned and let him go, feeling him tense up recalling her words.
“Honey, you know that’s not true. She’s just a dumb kid---”
“And,” he cut you off, “she implied that mom thought so too. As if she were calling on her behalf.” His expression quickly changed from anger to being crestfallen. He had felt like a disappointment to his family and had a contentious relationship with his mother for as long as you had known him. This definitely wasn’t helping and definitely wasn’t the way to start the week off right.
“C’mon, let’s go back to bed.” You instructed, taking his hand and leading him back to your bedroom. You quickly crawled back under the covers, seeking their sanctuary. Brian sat down on the bed, however, he hesitated to get comfortable. He looked at the clock and sighed.
“I might as well just get ready for work at this point. Sorry.” He started to get up but you shot your arms out towards him and held on.
“No. Join me, come on. I need you. I need your warmth,” you pouted and he laughed.
“Fine. I can spare five minutes,” he emphasized with a joking tone.
“Oh, you’re so gracious,” you replied sarcastically, pulling him down to lay beside you. “I think you should play hooky today. C’mon, Bri. The weekend went too quickly. You can be ‘sick’ on a Monday.” You cooed the words convincingly into his ear.
Tell your boss you're sick, hurry, get back in I'm getting cold
Get over here and warm my hands up, boy, it's you they love to hold
“Y/N, baby. I can’t. We have to be adults here.” He muttered into your hair.
“Says who? Or, if it makes you stay...being an adult means you get to make those calls, right? Decide what you want to do?” He was wrestling with your words and you were pretty sure you were winning him over, but then he protested.
“No. I mean, yes. But it also means making the right decision. I mean, my sister just told me that I’m not trustworthy. I can’t prove her right.”
“Are you really worried about what fourteen-year-old Mary thinks? You think she has great perception about what it means to be an adult?” You laughed a little at the thought, encouraging him to do the same.
“But we have responsibilities. Work, school, the cat---”
“He’s fine. There’s food in his bowl and he doesn’t go outside. Nice try, though,” you stuck your tongue out at him.
And stop thinking about what your sister said
Stop worrying about it, yes the cat's already been fed
Come on darlin', let's go back to bed
“You, of all people have earned a real day off, sweetheart,” you told him, earnestly. “One where you don’t have to be obligated to anyone and don’t have to think about stupid family events or filing reports or anything else. Just...enjoy being here, with me?” You kissed him behind his ear and down his neck and could feel his resolve melting.
“You know, you don’t play fair.” He mused to you, but you just smirked against his skin in response. “Fine! One day. It won’t kill us, right? But you have to let me go to call in, you realize that right?” You scooted away from him to let him do so.
“Hurry back,” you prompted him, biting your lower lip. You didn’t want him to get distracted and reroute. No ‘adult’ tasks, just returning to you in bed as soon as possible.
Put the phone machine on hold
Leave the dishes in the sink
Do not answer the door
It's you that I adore
I'm gonna give you some more
You were ecstatic when he returned and you could feel his weight shift the bed as he joined you once more. “I can’t believe you talked me into this,” he began, “you know me. I don’t lie and I never call in sick. Unless I’m practically dying.”
“That’s the whole point, love. You don’t need to have ‘perfect attendance,’” you snickered, thinking about how he really hadn’t grown out of his desire to be a top-notch student and follow the rules; it was too ingrained in his personality, but it was also one of the reasons you loved him; he was nothing if not ambitious.
“I know. It’s just...different.”
“Good. So, what do you want to do today instead?” You asked and started posing some options.
We'll sit on the front porch, the sun can warm my feet
You can drink your coffee with sugar and cream
I'll drink my decaf herbal tea
“I thought your whole deal was for me to stay in bed with you,” he smirked. Then, his voice became uncharacteristically husky as he leaned forward toward your ear and muttered, “all day.” The implication in his tone and words gave you goosebumps. He traced his fingers up your arms and you knew that he could feel them, which only egged him on. “You know, you can be very persuasive.”
“Look who’s talking.” You smiled back at him. You knew he was just teasing you at this point, but two could play at that game. You goaded him to make the first move, and luckily for you, it didn’t take long. He cradled your head and your neck on the side opposite from his face and began to kiss your jaw. The sweet pecks there quickly became hot, open-mouthed kisses down your neck and you groaned in response; this only fueled his fire. He slipped both of his hands up your shirt, reveling in the fact that early morning meant no bra to hassle with as he eagerly engulfed your breasts in each of his hands. He squeezed gently, tentatively, as he laid a bite down in the crook of your neck and you couldn’t help the whimper that escaped your throat, not from pain but from desperately needing more. While normally, Brian would grant you anything you wanted, he did not indulge you in this. Instead he began to kiss your lips and his hands left your chest...only to begin hooking his fingertips over the band of your pajama pants and underwear. You didn’t resist and impatiently became his assistant, lifting your hips and butt off the bed. He smirked against your mouth and you secretly enjoyed the confidence. You loved letting him know how much you wanted him; how much you always wanted him.
You were just about to run your fingers through his hair when he pulled away and sat up. You immediately jut out your lower lip in reaction. He wouldn’t stop now, would he? Brian wasn’t much for teasing, generally. The two of you wanted to be together, and he wanted to accomplish that as quickly as possible 99% of the time, so you eyed him curiously, but he just readjusted and pulled your undergarments all the way from your legs before settling between your thighs. He licked his lips in a way that made your mouth instantly go dry before remarking, “What a better way to spend a day off...than breakfast in bed?” It was a ridiculous thing to say, but it was also ridiculously hot. Had you not been so worked up, you might have laughed, but he didn’t allow you much time to react as he dove forward and lapped you up. You could feel the jolt pulse through your whole body as you cried out in surprise and pleasure, encouraging him to do more. He spread his wide hands over your hips to keep you in place as he licked another long band up your core, his tongue delving in, finally. Even though you were lost in the haze of the moment, you remembered your earlier intent to run your fingers through his soft hair and reached up to do so, fingernails gently scraping against his scalp. His unconscious moan at the effect created vibrations through his tongue and into you. His moan may have started in his mouth, but it ended up in yours as the sensation overtook you.
“Fuck...Brian!” You whined, and he popped his head up, drawing his fingers into his mouth.
“No, sweetheart. That comes later.” He reminded you, slipping two of his long, deft digits into your pussy, before continuing his ministrations with his mouth. You were not going to last long like this, which you quickly told him in a strained whimper, but he kept perfect pace, only aiming to make you feel good. Your pants and moans became louder and more desperate as you could feel the coil inside you build and build until it finally snapped. Brian gently pulled away from you and you placed your hand on the side of his face, caressing his cheek and looking at him adoringly.
Pretend we're perfect strangers and that we never met
‘My, you remind me of a man I used to sleep with
That's a face I'd never forget’
He licked his lips slowly, both to savor the lingering taste of you and to prepare himself for his next question, “Do you want to go for a ride?” You knew he loved having you on top. He preferred to be able to see all of you, particularly your expressions when he racked you with pleasure. While he lamented once that those positions didn’t let him see your ass, he had always been a breast man first and foremost anyway. And, if he were being completely honest, he’d probably acknowledge that he liked having you on top because it reminded him of the first time you two had made out and you had given him his first ever hickey. Well, you were each other’s first...everything. But that particular day cemented that you chose him and actually desired him. The way you straddled his lap and squeezed him with your thighs while making your own brand upon his skin had imprinted on his memory for all of these years. You were both so nervous then, but had had lots of opportunity to discover what you enjoyed together since.
You bit your lip and nodded in answer to his question before he scrambled off the bed to remove his own pants. You giggled a little at the fervor overcoming him as he stumbled over himself. You crawled to the foot of the bed so he could take your spot and watched him undress, eyes taking him in hungrily. It didn’t matter if this was the hundredth time or the thousandth, he still thrilled you as though it were the first.
And you can be Henry Miller and I'll be Anais Nin
Except this time it'll be even better
We'll stay together in the end
Come on darlin', let's go back to bed
Of course, he was already worked up, too, having already provided you with one orgasm. You stared at his erect length, already wet and dripping and ready for you and gulped with anticipation. While you were ‘used to’ it now, you still salivated at the thought, the sight, every time because you knew what that cock could do. Brian nestled himself back into the bed, propped up on the pillows and you slinked back up his legs to join him on his lap. He quickly grabbed the bottom hem of your shirt and lifted upwards, he wanted all of you. He tossed it aside before wrapping a steadying hand around his length and guiding you up on top of the tip with one hand on your hip. The tight warmness overwhelmed him as you slid down slowly, taking your time and relishing in it. He threw his head back against the headboard and drew his lower lip in between his teeth and you surveyed him, wanting to remember exactly how he looked in this moment, for the rest of your life. “God, you’re gorgeous.” You reminded him before rocking your hips forward, the sensation of which just made him bite his lip harder before he let go and gave you a smile at your words. He loved knowing you felt that way about him, and he adored the methods you chose to show him as such.
You started to pick up your rhythm, bouncing upon him instead, delighting in the relieving friction it gave you. You reveled in the feeling of him filling you up; it felt like just another sign that you two were made for each other. A perfect fit.You placed both of your hands on the center of his chest to provide you more stabilization as you repeatedly took him in, slamming back down on him in time with his groans and strained pants. His hands snaked up your hips, then your stomach, and your chest. He squeezed both of your breasts in tandem; another fit as his large hands engulfed your bosom. You looked down and noticed his large, chunky, very-80s-style watch on his wrist and that, for some reason, only turned you on more. He took note of you eyeing him and ran one hand up your neck to the back of your head, tangling his fingers into a fistful of your hair before pulling you down to kiss you. Even though it threw off your rhythm, you could hardly mind when his tongue slipped into your mouth and wordlessly expressed to you how much passion this man had for you and only you. He released your mouth, but only to use both of his hands to desperately cling to your hips as he began to fuck up into you. The enthusiastic thrusts were definitely going to send you over the edge, and quickly.
“Brian, I’m. Going. To--” You panted breathlessly, unable to finish your sentence.
“Good, baby. Cum for me, please,” he begged and you were not one to deny him. The sensation rolled over you as the sweat rolled down your body and your orgasm hit you full-force. Your legs shook, barely able to hold your weight any longer as Brian released inside you as well. You leaned forward on his bare chest, gasping for air.
“Jesus. Wow. Any chance I can talk you into calling in sick tomorrow, too?” You grinned at him and he rolled his eyes, but returned the grin, the dimples in his cheeks melting you instantly. You rolled to his side, laying on your back and he took your hand in his as the two of you tried to regain your breath and come down from your respective highs.
Put the phone machine on hold
Leave the dishes in the sink
Do not answer the door
He soon pulled you into his side, wrapping an arm around you and you nestled into the crook of his arm, pulling the light sheet of the bed up over the two of you before draping an arm around his middle. You weren’t sure how long you stayed like this, in numb, happy silence, but it felt luxurious and you did not ever want to leave it.
“Marry me.”
“What?” You asked incredulously, not sure if you heard him properly. But then he just gave you a deadpan look to indicate that he knew you heard him correctly. You sort of laughed it off, pushing up off him and propping yourself up on your elbow. “You’re a goof,” you said, thinking it was some off-handed comment fueled by post-coital bliss. He looked at you a moment, weighing his options, then turned and started shuffling through the top drawer of his bedside table.
“No, look. I--I’ve been trying to plan the perfect time or place but--” he paused as he readjusted, turning to you with whatever he dug out of the drawer, “I don’t think there’s a better time. It’s moments, days like these that remind me that I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He produced a crushed red velvet box and sat up, looking you in the eyes. “Y/N L/N, will you marry me?” He opened the box and you could see it contained the most beautiful diamond ring you had ever seen.
Your shocked silence made him incredibly nervous. Even though you had been together for five years, he felt suddenly transported to being that awkward, gawky kid again; asking you to the Spring Formal underneath the tree at Shermer High. When you finally recalled how to breathe again, you nodded intensely. “Yes, of course I will, Brian!” He exhaled the breath that he, too, had been holding in anticipation and started to chuckle in relief.
“Oh, thank God.” He whispered, taking your hand in his, slipping the ring on your finger. It fit perfectly. Of course meticulous, always-planning Brian would already know that it would. You looked up from your new ring to your new fiance with sparkling eyes.
“Oh, if only sophomore-year-me could see us now.” He looked at you curiously, having no idea what you meant, so you followed up with, “all those times I wrote ‘Mrs. Y/N Johnson’ in my notebooks. And now, that’s going to be the reality.” You grinned up at him.
For you, I'd be a poor man's wife
I'm gonna give you some more
Let the phone ring, let's go back to sleep
Crazy (Brian Johnson x Fem!Reader)

Word Count: 3K
A/N: So, in listening to Electric Blue for that chapter, I discovered this song also by Icehouse and became obsessed and here we are. Cue yet another anachronistic songfic! *air horns* (Also, Matt is back. And I just...I love him so much).
Synopsis: Brian still doesn’t really ‘get’ why reader is with him or chose him, but he likes it anyway. Directly follows Good Boy.
CW: Self-doubt, mild put downs, some sexuality (talking about the previous chapter), swearing, another 80s songfic
Brian could not wrap his head around it, obviously. Yesterday, he was sure he lost her, that she had realized that she could have anyone she wanted, that she didn’t have to settle for him. And it just seemed crazy to him that the anyone she wanted would mean...well, him. They weren’t opposites, per se. Not in the way that Claire and Bender were. But he felt like he didn’t have as much to offer, other than knowledge in math, which she hated anyway. She was the absolute nicest person he had ever met and while he hated confrontation and tried to make peace between parties all the time, he was prone to dark thoughts.
I've got a pocket full of holes
Head in the clouds the king of fools
You've got a ribbon of rainbows
The sun in your eyes burning through
Y/N hadn’t exactly yelled ‘fuck you’ at Claire Standish, anyway. ‘She did punch Mike in the face though,’ Brian thought with pride, ‘and she did it for you.’ He smirked at the thought of it, especially since they were now approaching the Shop class door. Y/N had insisted on walking with him to this class today, knowing Mike would be there. Brian leaned against the wall to the left of the doorframe, looking down at Y/N while he talked to her, her hand still in his. He saw Mike approaching from the hallway behind them and was semi-surprised that he didn’t just turn tail and walk away after the shit he pulled yesterday. It wasn’t like he was a stranger to skipping class anyway. But maybe he wanted to make a statement in the same way that Brian and Y/N wanted to. Brian squeezed Y/N’s hand to indicate to her that Mike was there and she immediately dropped her sentence and stood on her tiptoes to kiss Brian’s lips in front of him. Their makeout session had reassured Brian yesterday, but she explained that she wanted to drive home to Mike that he had not succeeded; that she and Brian were still happily together. His eyes fluttered closed; she’d never kissed him at school before. They weren’t hugely into public displays of affection and mostly just held hands or hugged, not wanting an adult to write them up to spend another Saturday with Vernon. ‘Might not be so bad though, to have a whole day with just her in the library…’ His mind drifted off in the pleasant thought as he wrapped his arms around her waist and heard Mike huff past them. They had definitely succeeded in their mission, but he didn’t really care that Mike was there or had seen them; this was good enough. He pulled back and looked in her eyes, lips twitching up into a smile.
“What?” She asked innocently.
Could be I'm happy and sad
Could be I'm losing my head over you
“Nothing. Just...admiring you.” He said, earnestly, but she laughed and blushed in response.
“You’re a goof.” She said, playfully tapping his shoulder and pulling away. “Now, get to class.”
“Yes ma’am,” he joked, “I’ll let you know how it goes.”
“You’d better.” She looked at him mischievously.
Well, you've gotta be crazy, baby
To want a guy like me
Brian felt emboldened by their exchange in the hallway and reasoned ‘I’m doing this for her sake,’ as he took a seat directly in Mike’s line of sight. He could feel the fixed glare on him, knowing Mike hated that his nasty little scheme didn’t work; he couldn’t steal Y/N away from Brian, and the little cut in his lip was proof. Brian, however, had his own proof and subtly adjusted the collar on his button-down shirt, making it even looser by undoing the second button. He pretended to be listening to the instructor attentively but waited to feel Mike’s eyes on him again. He knew it was bound to happen. He caught him in his periphery looking over at him, and he definitely wasn’t zoning out because there were daggers in his eyes, so Brian pretended to scratch his shoulder, revealing the hickey that Y/N left on his neck yesterday afternoon. She’d made her brand upon him so that everyone could know that he belonged to her and vice versa. Who better to start with than Mike? He turned slightly towards him as his eyes bugged in realization and he gave Mike a smug smirk. The dark-haired boy’s expression darkened and his face became red before he looked away. No, Brian didn’t ‘get it’ that Y/N chose him and wanted to be with him, but he sure enjoyed it.
Yeah, you've gotta be out of your mind, crazy
Well, there must be some kind of mistake
To give your heart away
“Oh, I was pretty sure his head was going to explode,” Brian was regaling Y/N about today’s shop class as she drove him home. She had, of course, taken Bender to work first and they had saved this conversation for the time just between them. John was still incensed that Mike did something so stupid and would probably love a revenge plot against him, but Brian and Y/N both knew better that Bender would not want to hear about the mark that had driven Mike so crazy. Nor did they really need his taunts or questions about it, either. That would be a nightmare.
“Oh my God. Spare no detail. Tell me exactly how he looked.” Y/N was almost giddy about the prospect, “I almost wish I was there.”
“It was pretty great,” Brian flashed her a smile, one she returned warmly, “So I was all nonchalant about it but like, of course I knew he could see it.”
“Right.”
“But then I kind of turned more towards him and his eyes got huge, like they were going to pop out of his skull.”
“Amazing,” she laughed, “what else?”
“Then he just kind of...glared at me. Like he was hoping I’d burst into flames. And his face got all red and veiny. I swear he was gonna blow a gasket.”
“Utterly beautiful,” she remarked and Brian took a moment to think that it was a funny thing to say; it’s how he would describe her, not Mike’s pissed-off expression.
So if I'm dreaming don't wake me tonight
If this is all wrong I don't want it right
“Thank you for filling me in,” she said as she pulled up against the curb in front of his house.
“No problem, My pleasure, really,” he joked.
“I know it isn’t exactly...like you to do that, y’know? Like you don’t go around starting things or causing trouble.”
“Hey, I cause trouble,” he mused, smiling, “you met me in detention, you knew I was a bad boy.” She laughed in response; he loved that.
“Yeah, okay,” she replied sarcastically and giggled, “but, my point is...I’m glad you did it. Like, I’m proud of you for not backing down. He deserves for things to be awkward, to have it thrown in his face.”
“Oh, for sure. Any time. It’s not like I minded the method or anything…” He playfully raised an eyebrow at her, and she giggled in response but also blushed anyway. It was still a slightly embarrassing topic, given that it was a new chapter for them and they were still kind of figuring things out together. He realized he was lost in a gaze and cleared his throat to snap out of it. “Do you want to come in for a bit?” He gestured back towards his house. He didn’t mean to imply anything untoward, but realized that’s how it could come across, so he quickly sputtered out, “I mean, uh, my mom’s probably home but maybe we could just hang out for a while?”
“Yeah. I’d like that,” she responded and they both headed inside. She had only been at Brian’s house a handful of times, and definitely only in communal spaces; she had never seen his room. While Y/N lived with her mom and Bender, things at her house were usually quieter...more deserted. Brian’s house always had someone else in it, it seemed. He was right about this afternoon, his mother was indeed home. Brian and Y/N settled on the couch, not too close together or touching. While his family was supportive of him having a girlfriend and adored Y/N, it was still horribly uncomfortable to imply any sort of closeness or affection around them. Maybe at some point, they would outgrow that, but for now, it was frightening just to think about his parents witnessing even a touch to the hand, let alone a kiss or something.
Unfortunately, their time together didn’t last too long. Brian’s mom popped in to let them know she would be headed out soon to pick up Mary from school and gave them a look that implied she did not want them to be alone in the house together. He felt his neck prickle in embarrassment, but Y/N just nodded and told Mrs. Johnson, “I should probably get home soon to start dinner anyway.”
Before she left the room, however, his mother casually tossed out, “While I’m gone, Brian, get started on your homework, please. I noticed your grade in Shop is slipping again.” He clenched his jaw in response. He hated that she felt the need to say anything to him about it, but particularly in front of his girlfriend. She left, but the tension of her words remained in the air and Y/N caught Brian’s uneasy expression.
“Honey, you know that you are so much more than your grades, right?” She asked him, reassuringly taking his hand. He wasn’t sure how much his conscious or unconscious minds really knew that, but her believing that was enough in this moment. He looked up at her and met her eye.
“Thank you,” he replied, grateful for the reminder.
'Cause you're the one sure thing
When I get lost in the game once again
To him, she was perfect. Which just made it difficult to believe she saw him in a similar light. She was supportive and reminded him what mattered, brought up his good qualities. And her list extended longer than his own of ‘can make spaghetti,’ it was filled with attributes he didn’t even see that he had. He felt like it was sheer luck that she was with him. He supposed part of it was; it was fate for both of them to have detention that day after not really seeing each other at all this school year. He remembered the odd feeling of devastation he felt the first day of each semester, realizing she wasn’t in any of his classes. He had forgotten about her a bit over the summer, to be truthful, but when he started thinking of school again, she was the first thing that came to mind and he was hoping he would see her again. But he was wholly disappointed making it through that first day back with no sign of her. He even thought that maybe she had moved away, that she was only meant to be a quick glimmer in his otherwise dull life and that he’d have to move on. He was delighted and relieved when he saw her in one of the hallways a few days later, although he wasn’t entirely sure he wasn’t imagining it until he saw her around a few more times. Then, he looked hopefully towards the semester change of classes in January...just to be disappointed again. He assumed that she had forgotten all about him, if she had ever noticed him at all.
Then came that Saturday in March. He was so stunned to see her walk in. Detention, of all places. A place neither of them would typically be, but it was just a right-time-right-place situation. He thanked whatever powers that be that she got caught freeing those frogs and that the flare gun blew up his locker. Otherwise, he might not have had this second chance, this opportunity. When he was alone and reflected on it, he had to admit that he almost let that opportunity pass him by, too. She had asked him for help in math and given him her phone number. She really initiated it. He realized now, that she was chasing him the whole time.
Hey, I'm a lucky guy
Without a reason and I don't understand
Well, you've gotta be crazy, baby
To want a guy like me
“Shh..shh. Let me process this and picture it first. Okay, proceed.”
“You know, I’m not so sure I want to be telling you things about my girlfriend so you can fantasize about her later.” Brian scoffed at Matt as they both huddled in a booth at Gino’s. He was excited to tell him the deal with making Mike mad and the thrilling story of just how he had received that hickey...but Matt savoring the details was now making him regret it.
“It’s not so much that.” Matt replied, and when Brian gave him a stare as if to say, ‘Really?’ he continued, “Okay, yeah. I have eyeballs and these glasses to help them so I know your girlfriend is hot but...I don’t think of her that way, honestly, man.”
“You’re still being weird about it.”
“I’ve told you, it’s vicarious,” Matt shrugged, “It’s like...like seeing Kirk and Uhura kiss. I don’t want to kiss her but you still kind of imagine a similar situation where you get to be the brave captain, y’know? It’s like reading a romance novel. Or, apparently, in your case, a letter to Penthouse.” He waggled his eyebrows and Brian swiped at him, but Matt dodged it.
“It is not a letter to Penthouse. Jesus, Matt.” Brian grumbled in response.
“There’s no use in fantasizing about your girlfriend, anyway. She clearly only has eyes for you. You should see the way she looks at you, it’s almost sickening.”
“Get outta here,” Brian dismissed him.
“No, man. I don’t think other guys exist to her. Not like...in an attractive capacity anyway. I don’t think she knows there’s anybody but you.” Matt told him and Brian tried to hide his smile, even though propping his elbow on the table and covering his mouth with his hand was probably obvious. “Honestly, I think that’s what I’m most jealous of,” Matt said, seriously.
“What?” Brian asked and Matt rolled his eyes at his obliviousness.
“That she’s in love with you, dude. That’s not an everyday thing. Like, a guy kissing a hot girl? Sure. Even making out and getting a hickey, why not? But having someone who looks at you like you’re the only person in the whole world, the only thing that matters? That shit is rare, my friend.”
“She’s not--she doesn’t...we haven’t been dating that long, Matt.” Brian cleared his throat. Matt always told it to him straight, but he found this hard to believe.
“Like that matters? I’ve seen the way you look at her too, moron. You’re going to tell me, honestly, that you’re not in love with her?” Matt looked at him blankly and Brian didn’t answer; he didn’t lie to Matt either. He had known for a while that it wasn’t just some crush, or even a mutual liking of each other. He knew his feelings for her were more than that. He’d do anything for her, to make her happy. When he sat in silence and didn’t defend himself, Matt followed up with a simple, “Exactly. That’s what I thought.”
Yeah, you've gotta be out of your mind, crazy
Well, there must be some kind of mistake
To fall in love with me
Yeah, you've gotta be out of your mind, crazy
Friday night, he was over at Y/N’s house, just the two of them. They were nestled together on her pink couch in her living room, he was leaned back against the arm, with his right leg on the couch and his left on the ground supporting their collective weight. She was laying against him, her back against his chest, with both of her feet up on the couch and his arms wrapped around her waist. Even entangled like this, he felt like he would never be close enough. His heart was humming at the realization that this was indeed real, that he had all he dreamed of for years. When he was here with her like this, it didn’t matter that Shop wasn’t going great, or that he had an argument with his mom, or that Mary broke one of his trophies, or that people thought he was a geek. He was just...happy. He couldn’t remember being more content.
“Brian?” Y/N asked and he snapped out of his thoughts.
“Hmm?”
“I asked you a question and you didn’t answer,” she turned slightly and gave him an uneasy smile, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I was just---just thinking.”
“About what?” She looked at him with puzzlement.
“I- Okay, don’t laugh or think I’m weird or wrong or whatever but… I just. Don’t really understand how we got here, to this point. But I’m just very, very happy about it.” She sat up and turned, feet now on the floor so she could see him. Her eyes raked his face for some kind of understanding of what he meant.
“I don’t...I don’t know what you mean.”
“Like,” he shifted, a little uncomfortable under her gaze, “I mean, I was there but I still don’t really get it. Like, why me? You’d have to be crazy to choose a guy like me.”
“Funny, it feels like the most logical and rational thing I’ve ever done,” she teased him and leaned forward against his chest. “But I guess I get it; I feel the same way about you. And, I’m also just happy it worked out,” she leaned up and kissed his lips, which he was all too happy to return.
