The Dumbass Brigade’s new looks for End of Dragons
The dumbass brigade + Casus having some well earned R&R at the festival of the four winds! Sure everything is sort of an existentialist nightmare in Corvus Luminiferous right now, but they deserve a beach episode. As a treat.
Thank you to @fractal-quadrilioquy for being the photographer for these, the top one in particular took two hours for us to get right.
2, 7, and 11 for Caivere?
@mystery-salad
Thank you for the ask!
2. What do strangers notice about them first?
Caivere is a very easy person to not notice. Half of his job is blending in and getting into places he shouldn't be without people noticing. So normally what's noticed is that he is small, and quiet, and right next to them oh god how long has he been there. Even when he's in his workshop where he basically lives, he's quite but, intensely focused.
7. What is their hair texture like?
His hair is made up of all these long, crinkled green leaves, pretty dry and tough but not brittle.
11. What color do they look strikingly good in?
Caivere usually dresses in Green and Red but he looks good in bronze and red-browns. He's got pretty strong colours as it is, dark red and dark green, so generally he goes for neutral or matching tones.
OC Question hour! For whoever you feel like sharing with us today.
Would they consider themselves 'spontaneous' or 'free-spirited' or are they more stoic? Depending on what they are, how do they view those who are more on the opposite side of the scale?
(@uselessidiotsquad)
Alright in this house we decide characters by rolling dice and the dice gods have picked Caivere I've noticed the dice gods pick Caivere a lot and it's not the same dice I just used a D10 that has been missing for what, five years now? Yeah I found the D10 from my first set of dice the other day so now it's back to a full set of dice it's really exciting.
Anyways, the fun thing about the dumbass brigade (Ghainen Caivere Arceidai and Theitia) is all of them consider themself the smartest person in the group. As the name would imply, they are all wrong. Caivere considers himself a cool, level head, suave and stoic cool guy. To his credit, he and Theitia are definitely the less high strung two of the group, and he's definitely the quietest. When he's doing something wild it's hard to tell because he plays it completely straight. But this man is fucking ridiculous. His one weakness is that if something is funny, or he thinks it'sa good idea, he'll do it without hesitation. Caivere was banned from Lion's Arch. Do you know how hard it is to get banned from a city run by pirates? He doesn't see himself as impulsive. He is. He just doesn't see it because he is privy to his entire thought process directly before doing something.
Thank you for the ask!! :D
OC Question time, if you would like one. No worries if not :D For whoever you would care to tell us about:
What is their reaction to uncertainty? Do they detest it or do they find some excitement in not knowing everything? What types of dreams (if any) do they have? Do they believe dreams mean anything?
(@uselessidiotsquad)
Once again, roll of the dice, hi haven't seen you in a while it's nice to be back at it again. The dice, seem to really like Caivere so Caivere it is this thing has gotta be weighted.
Caivere is an engineer, he likes the process of solving a problem, but unlike Arceidai who gets very excited when they don't know something, who will then do anything to answer their question, most of his joy comes from the satisfaction of trying something out, and discovering be was correct. He doesn't do anything he isn't 100% certain of. While he doesn't neccessarily have a problem with not knowing, his reaction to uncertainty is to become certain.
His dreams are like, you know the dreams you have after playing a lot of tetris? If he's working on something he'll keep working on that in his dreams except in a weird abstract way. He doesn't think they mean much, just that his brain does not shut up when he gets interested in something.
31, 36, 42, and 49 for... surprise me :3c but bonus: a different character for each :3cc - @moonlit-grove
Okay okay spicy, I'm gonna roll on a table for which character I talk about! Let's see if we can get some kids I don't usually talk about.
@moonlit-grove
31. Your character has been invited to a masquerade ball. What mask do they wear?
For this one I got Ghainen! I think Ghainen would go for something kinda of but not quite venitian carnival mask style, very stereotypical masquerade mask, with a lot of those orante details, something sort of along these lines
Princely is the word I would use to describe his look. He enjoys looking nice, and a formal occasion calls for a formal look.
36. Tell us something about your OC that doesn't make it onto the page?
Caivere is a bundle of secrets and most of the time he doesn't even let me know these things. The dice I rolled was incredibly insistent that I answer on of these for him though, I tried to reroll because I didn't have an answer and it just came up the same number. The die has spoken. Who am I to disagree with the dice gods.
Caivere has, in canon, been banned from Lion's Arch. It's been a few years, and he's friends with the Pact Commander now, but there are outstanding warrants for his arrest and he has no idea if they're still standing. It was a misunderstanding, any engineer worth their salt knows that C4 is a stable explosive that will not detonate with gunfire so it shouldn'thave been an issue, but the second the dolyak showed up things escalated very quickly.
42. Does your character celebrate their birthday? If not, why?
Okay on this one I rolled Caleb. Caleb doesn't actually know when his real birthday is because he was so young when he was taken in. The date he was taken in was what they used as his birthday at the orphanage but he didn't have a lot of attachment to that, it was just a day when one of the priests would get him a small candy or something, they generally tried to make an effort to make the kids feel cared for where they could. After he left he didn't pay a lot of attention to that, until Faoler asked when his birthday was, and that was the date he stuck with. Now they usually do something like have a nice dinner.
49. What is your character's biggest fear? Most irrational?
The dice gods have chosen Theitia. That's a fun one.
Theitia's biggest fear has always been being controlled. And ironically that fear has always been what led her to be controlled. She didn't want to be controlled by the Dream, she ended up being used by Faolain. She escaped the Nightmare and became soundless, only to become Mordrem. She had to stop running in order to
Most of her fears are pretty rational, and have all happened. Being used, having a dragon in her head, loosing Arceidai, everything she's afraid of has precident.
Some edits for Wintersday, featuring the entire Dumbass Brigade! Sure, there are two elder dragos running rampant throughout Tyria, but there's always time to down over 100 glasses of eggnog in one go then meticulously destroy a mans entire intricate, carefully crafted, magic toy Diorama.
Happy Holidays everyone!
have some salad asks! :) 2, 8, 10, and 18 for whichever one you most want to talk about right now! -kerra-and-company
Thank you for the ask! These ones I think work best for the entire Dumbass Brigade and, because they were designed together to an extent I feel like they need to have most of these answered together.
2) were they modeled after a specific plant? If not, what was your inspiration?
Not many of my Sylvari are actually modeled after real plants! Usually they are associated with plants later down the line, like Theitia is loosely connected to roses. I usually pick a colour scheme and run with it. In this case, they were kind of made as a group, loosely speaking. Arceidai was made first, they were my first character, they're my commander. Loosely their design was based on an oc I had back then for a different thing but that evolved very quickly in the design process. Until about, maybe four years ago, they weren't a proper character, which was kind of allowed by Theitia's involvement in their story.
That was prompted in part by going "Oh what if there could be different commanders and they could be in different timelines!" (Which have now evolved to be the five main Corvus Timelines) Then I came up with a series of, let's say design prompts. Their names started with G C A and T after the four nitrogen bases that make up DNA, their colour schemes cycle through Green/Purple, Purple/Blue, Blue/Red, Red/Green. There was also brief consideration of basing them off the four horsemen of the apocalypse, because every timeline that wasn't the main timeline, now called Corvus Luminiferous, was supposed to fall apart. I'm now properly writing their lore and a story with them so that might still be a thing if I can make it work.
The very first concept I had that got absorbed into Theitia was a revenant who channeled the commander and became the new commander after Balthazar killed them, became the new weilder of Caladbolg. Later I got to thinking about Wyld hunts being fucked up, she became a character foil to Arc, and once I had her figured out Ghainen and Caivere just fit naturally into the story.
8) during what cycle were they born?/12) how old are they?
Ghainen was born in the Cycle of Noon on the 13th day of Phoenix, 1322. He is 12 years old.
Caivere was born in the Cycle of Night on the 73th day of Phoenix, 1323 AE. He is 10 years old.
Arceidai was born in the Cycle of Dusk on the 28th day of Colossus, 1324 AE. They are 9 years old.
Theitia was born in the Cycle of Dawn on the 45th day of Colossus, 1324 AE. She's also 9 years old.
10) Would they take selfies?
Ghainen absolutely would if he was feeling cute, he probably would have the most fun with the act of just taking photos,
Caivere would mostly take selfies with friends
Arceidai wouldn't BUT they would show up in the background of other peoples selfies just slightly blurry or out of focused, usually looking kind of alarmed,
Theitia would prefer to have other people take her photo because it's easier for everyone to pose and they'd turn out better but she'd take selfies
