nothing prepares robert for the transition of being decorated with his toddler daughter's pink bows and flowery hair ties to walking around with a kids backpack that has an overly cute -to the point that it's ugly- bear face on the front of it. he's not moved to tears by it like you are. but the thought of his little angel, once the size of his beloved chihuahua, growing to reach his hips was strange. it's like he looked away for one moment and all of a sudden, his daughter- his baby was having a full conversation with him.
there's no more dada, daddy is being heard even less, and dad is the trend for kids her age. she's even being sarcastic with him which... where did she learn to do that? oh, right. from him. he didn't think kids learnt things like that so quickly.
if you told robert years ago that he'd be holding the hand of his daughter and bringing her in for a shift at sdn, he would have thought you were lying.
your daughter making sdn visits wasn't new but this was the first time she was sticking around for an entire shift. robert promised blonde blazer no trouble since his mini sweetheart was well behaved and he'd already prepared her some activities to keep her busy. on the bright side, no one really cared that he brought his kid to work since they've seen her around before and robert has gotten away with bringing beef along for his shifts.
she spent most of her time rotating between a coloring book, story book, a couple of toys, and a mini dispatch activity robert wrote for her in case she felt like pretending to be him. because kids actually looked up to their parents and you told robert your daughter wished to help others, boss them around "like dad does all the time" which... wow, that sounded a little mean.
it lasted about half the shift before she had gone astray to play with the cat mascot that makes everyone coffee or chatter right into robert's headpiece and cut into conversations of him nagging flambae or golem to do the job right. chase had even stopped by to snack and have lunch with her.
then by the end of the shift, she was in robert's lap asleep. robert didn't really notice as he was quite caught up with wrapping up the dispatching shift. he'd felt the little kicks and tugs as she'd climbed onto his chair and into his lap but he didn't think she had come up for an afternoon nap. her chin was over his shoulder, lips pressed in a tired pout, and her little arms wrapped around him awkwardly. subconsciously, robert had been patting her back as she napped, even leaning back in his chair so she wasn't so upright.
he doesn't leave work right away. it's the easier option when you've got a child whose fallen asleep when you've just finished work. but robert wanted to soak in the moment with his daughter and let her nap a little longer in his arms after he spent most of the day ignoring her for the citizens of los angeles and their stupid coffee runs. soon enough, she's going to stop bothering him while he's working and grow up before he realizes. it makes him worry about how fast time is flying but it's also moments like these that makes him appreciate the family he never thought he'd have.
Are you a fan of dad Robert. ? I really am but I feel like a lot of people aren’t so maybe I shouldn’t be. It’s just the fact that Robert being a dad, a good one, is so important to him and he just wants to make sure he’s loved and he knows how much he means (unlike Robert felt) I know it’s not in the best of circumstances but Seb is innocent, he needs his dad.
Honestly I don’t hate Robert as a dad at all! I do hate how they’ve done it, how this will probably turn into giving Robron a child (kinda) and that saddens me because they could’ve done it a different way that would’ve connected with lots of people and made for a great story. I think the issues around Robert being a dad are very complex and interesting, so I won’t be disappointed if Seb stays. I want to see how Robert deals with fatherhood, now and in the future, and I’m just seeing it as Sebs a little baby that was brought into this world completely innocent and needing love, affection and to be taken care of and Robert wants to do that more then anything.
dad robert whose first born daughter is the next maybe mecha man successor and his second born son is a dispatcher who likes working in a team with his dad, you, and his older sister.
you and robert don't shy away from introducing the hero world to your daughter, so she grows up with strong aspirations to be like her dad. even after hearing about his rock bottom as mecha man, it didn't stop her from thinking her dad was the coolest hero ever. if she isn't mecha man- mecha woman one day, then she's going to be the hero fighting alongside him like his z-team that he's close with. she'd protect her beloved family.
your son on the other hand is also fascinated with being a hero. but he always liked being the dispatcher when he used to play pretend with his sister back when they were kids. because he liked telling her where to go and how to solve problems. and while kids usually fought over things like this, your daughter didn't mind because it made her feel heroic and needed. it all works out because he ends up becoming a dispatcher when he grows up and the backbone of your family team.
robert who was once told that he was killing the legacy of his dad and mecha man predecessors having a family that aspires to be like him. the mecha man who stopped villains and the robert that could lead others...
Could you recommend any blogs that are pro dad!rob but don’t post any a*rex? I need to follow more people 🙂
Oh, i am not too sure, nonnie.
I know @victoriasugden for sure fits your description. And @endlessemptyrambling I think fits as well. @amandaj718 comes to mind as well. But other than that I am drawing a blank right now.
But hey, I will put this out there in the world and maybe people can reblog this post when they are pro dad robert and don’t post any aarx?
