Chipspeech Fanfic: Porcelain Doll
A DanDaisy thing, very cute sort of fanfic.
No warnings here!
“Can I apply the paint, sir? I’ve gotten real good at working with acrylics!”
A thin hand tugged at the inventor’s jacket. One of his creations, a female automaton, stared back at him, beckoning to be part of the project. Noting her excitement, he proceeded cautiously.
“Before I let you do that,” started he, “Can I see that you have been improving?”
The female automaton chuckled. “I knew you would ask that,” she said, playfully. She then whipped out a few porcelain dolls from behind her.
“Hmmmm…” observed the inventor. He closely examined the dolls.
One doll had pretty pale eyes, with carefully placed eyelashes and a soft blush; She wore a gingham patterned blue dress and a carefully embroidered apron. Another doll had earthy jade-colored eyes, this time possessing dark hair and a garb that reminded him of forest nymphs. The last one had deep, shimmering, brown eyes, and her dress was made to look like an actress. Each doll had an incredible amount of detail applied to it, with careful and delicate painting applied.
Nodding in approval, the inventor gave the eager automaton the set of paints.
“I think you have done a sufficient job here,” started the inventor, “perhaps even better! Just remember to be gentle with the glass eyes-they are fragile!”
As he left the room, the automaton smiled towards the blank face of his newest creation- an automaton just like her, a male companion temporarily dubbed “704”. He was constructed in a similar manner to herself: a steam powered machine that, through a whole lot of inventor voodoo that she didn’t understand, resurrected the life of a deceased man. The rest was just a body to enclose it all in, made of various sturdy materials that would be decorated with paints and clothes. Ready to begin, the automaton dipped her paintbrush into a peachy pale color and primed his face, humming to herself gleefully.
As she waited for the paint to dry, she began to speak to the inanimate male automaton.
“Ah...Hello there, you’re going to be my new friend,” she began.
“My name is Daisy. I’m a machine like you. Of course, you’re not done yet, but it’s just the finishing touches!”
She gave a light-hearted chuckle and lightly tapped his face. It felt smooth, not sticky like wet paint.
“Hehe, it’s time for the fun part! It’s the part where I make you handsome!”
Daisy dipped her paintbrush into some light red paint and began to decorate. With light strokes, she colored her lifeless companion’s lips, adding further details to it once it dried. Next, she brushed on a blush to his cheeks, though not too much, for he would look pained if he had a full on rouge. She then delicately lifted up his left eyelid, revealing a glass ball that was see-through. Carefully, she removed the ball and held it in her hand.
“This is my favorite part,” said Daisy. “I love painting eyes.”
Daisy first coated the ball in white paint, making sure not to miss a single spot. Then, she began to paint in a blue iris, with many minute details to make them appear as if they always sparkled in the light. Next, a black pupil would be dotted in the middle. With a few more dabs of paint, the automaton created a dazzling eyeball. Satisfied with her work, she placed the eyeball back in it’s place and closed the eyelid.
“Ah...you look more and more handsome with every brush stroke…”
Ready to work on the next eye, Daisy lifted up his right eyelid and removed his right eye.
After applying a coat of white paint, she found herself losing her grip on the eyeball; The next thing she knew, the ball was shattered on the ground, far from repair. Panicking, Daisy groped around for something to cover up the mistake. A hat? Handkerchief? Then, an old monocle caught her eye, and she quickly placed it over the gaping hole that was in his face. Relieved, she reclined back in her chair, glad that she hadn’t been caught...or so she thought.
“So you broke it, huh?”
Daisy jumped up from her chair and turned around. “S-Sir!? I, uh-”
“Don’t try to hide it, Dai- huh,”
The inventor admired the monocle over his creation’s right eye; He found it kind of whimsical, yet sophisticated. It gave him character.
“With a hat, I think the look would be complete!” chuckled the inventor, placing a top hat on top of his automaton’s head. Soon, Daisy chuckled as well in agreement.
“It’s perfect! Is...is he done yet?”
Before she knew it, Daisy was witnessing her inventor fill up two water tanks with water. When they were filled up, he gently stated, “Cover your eyes, Daisy.”
While she looked away, Daisy wondered to herself why he’d want her to look away. Another question she wondered was where those water tanks would go.
“You can look now.”
Her inventor was standing next to his creation. He gave a small smile and then said, “Are you ready Daisy?”
She eagerly nodded.
With a flip of a hidden switch, the mechanisms inside the automaton began to whir and steam was produced from his body. Within a minute, the left eye slowly opened, and then the automaton came to life.
“Ahhh…” spoke he. “I feel like I’ve been asleep for too long...who are you guys?”
Giddy with excitement, Daisy spoke first. “Hi, I’m Daisy! What’s your name?”
“Ah, greetings…” started he, slowly.
“I am Dandy.”
Daisy’s mechanical heart fluttered upon hearing his introduction. He was so refined! There was something special about him...his handsome face...his handsome demeanor...He was like a delicate porcelain doll, just like the many she had and loved. However, this wouldn’t be just any ol’ trinket to sit in her collection; Dandy would her precious porcelain doll, one treated with love and care, and held close to her mechanical heart.
