Adding another tally to the "Defect doesn't want to kill The Architect" pool, it's interesting that Vakuu goes out of his way to ask The Defect to do so, and Defect is specifically fearful

You could argue that it's more just it being scared of Vakuu in general but I feel like there's definitely implications of him offering this deal to it considering The Ironclad already exists,,,

Oh yeah, my understanding of that was that Defect geuinely doesn't want to kill the Architect, or at the very least if it does have to kill the Architect, doesn't want to sentence him to anything involve Vakuu, likely a fate worse then death.

I do think Vakuu is encouraging all of them to go kill the Architect (he just ordered Ironclad to do it), uh, except maybe for the Silent? Idk their interactions are weird. But putting her aside, I think the difference is while everyone else is either forced to kill the Architect or already working on it, the Defect is the only one that doesn't really want that. It just wants Flaw back.

Pael, who seems to both have some mind reading powers (maybe?) and is generally discouraging most of the other climbers (from killing the Architect/chasing their goals), is openly encouraging of Defect, telling it that "Father can restore Flaw"

Even more interesting, based on it's talk with Orobas, Defect might even be aware that Neow is manipulating it.

Obviously, it's hard to tell, but it doesn't respond negatively or refusing, just quietly. Defect may be the only one of our climbers whose fully aware it is being used by Neow and cares about that (The Silent probably also knows but her goals align with Neow's anyways).

The Defect does still attack the Architect in the end once it's hand is forced, but it absolutely seems like the one who wants that the least. It WANTS to be able to choose kindness, it seems to even tell the Architect about Neow??? But it can't get through to him, so it's forced to try violence even though it really doesn't want to.

so regent is like. obviously an arrogant piece of shit who's been pampered his entire like and never had anyone even look at him the wrong way. the defect, who's been through three hells and back in his life and the spire, does not give a single flying fuck about that, and mostly wonders why this short creature is so loud. the regent does end up... intrigued by defect though, because the other 3 characters treat him with at least some respect (maybe they dislike him but they have enough brain to not say it out loud because having allies in the spire is Good), and the defect is the first one in his life who even dared to show him disrespect. and well, in The Lore™, it says regent is looking for a challenge and excitement, maybe someone that doesn't openly kiss his feet is able to provide that...
