okay okay ninjago fic rec anon here I’m coming off anon now because I’m invested and I gotta find this fic now

so this fic/series I was talking about, I’m not sure it was blast from the past like the other anon suggested? (thank you soooo much by the way, I appreciate it!) maybe it could be but I didn’t fully read the description as I was frantically scrolling I’ll have to go back and look at that again

I’ll just infodump a buncha stuff about it in case anyone recognizes it haha

okay so it starts out with Kai falling through a portal (we don’t know why or where from at this point) and sensei wu finds him and takes him back with him to the dojo. Kai claims to have amnesia, so he doesn’t have to explain his past (this gives him a bonding point with Zane who also doesn’t remember his past)

the series then essentially follows the episodes starting from the beginning, but with changes as kai’s oddities shine through

as Nya doesn’t show up at first this changes kai’s motivations— the scene where he goes to get the sword he is tempted away by Garmadon whispering that he knows kai’s past

the series then gets more elaborate in its changes— nya shows up after the pilot episodes as a local college student who hangs out with them, and though they pretend not to know one another at first it’s revealed to us readers that she and Kai are twins who can speak telepathically to each other

there are plenty of mentions of kai’s oddities, sometimes in comparison to Zane. one I remember is how Kai sat and flipped the light switch on and off repeatedly as he was fascinated with indoor electricity. another thing that happens often is Kai getting sick more easily due to not having been exposed to modern illnesses. I could be wrong but I think another is that he doesn’t know how to read (on that note he isn’t as convinced he’s the green ninja as in cannon)

Kai also shows how he has greater knowledge of history at various points. I don’t remember many specific points here, just that the others are generally confused how he knows this and Kai realizes that he’s supposed to have amnesia

speaking of his amnesia is revealed when they meet the other element peeps and that one dude who can read minds reveals that to the others which causes dRaMa

at one point we learn there was a prophecy made about Kai and nya. this prophecy comes in that episode where they go back in kais past, but due to kai’s cover story he pretends it’s all new to him as well. the prophecy comes from a person in their old village who know when people will be sick before they are and gives them medicine right when they need it. The prophecy is given to kai’s father and says that Kai and nya both have tremendous power, nya a little less so, or at least kais are a little more volatile, but kai’s are extremely destructive— if not near nya who can help balance him (near being subjective) or with cole/jay/Zane or Lloyd, Kai becomes unstable and things he touches start to fall apart. this became a problem with Lloyd’s final battle when nya gets turned dark, as kai’s connection to her is broken, followed by everyone else later and when Lloyd is the only one left undarkened

there’s more to it but those are the biggest things I can remember now I’ll let you know if I remember more but seriously I gotta find this fic now

Only now I realised Change of Ulrich's Supersprint colour can be seen as a tribute to Garage Kids. In Garage Kids, after all, his Supersprint was blueishy-white, wasn't it....?
