I sort of assumed that the fake ciri only knew the horrible mutant monster rumors of witchers. Also they're reputation for picking up kids and then having like 7/10 die can't be great.
THAT’S A FAIR POINT, even though it’s clearly common knowledge that girls weren’t allowed to become witchers, the fake Ciri probably grew up on scary stories about how messing around with the wrong kind of magic might turn her into a heartless monster like a witcher. Jaskier’s music notwithstanding, there are clearly still some...image problems, let’s say.
And I’m sure that Calanthe, who knows very well that Geralt is not the emotionless monster of the stories, went ahead and played that up, hoping to manipulate Geralt into leaving without Ciri (fake or real) because she knows he’s not a kidnapper by nature, and a sufficiently scared kid would probably put him off.
