Looking for something to do this week? This is a reminder that our Safer At Home Art Contest ends this Friday. Safer At Home is an art contest for Evansville students aged 12 to 18 years old. You're invited to create art in whatever medium best shows your time as a teenager during Safer At Home in COVID-19. We want to see your life and how you feel during COVID-19 expressed in your art and explained with an artist statement describing the art piece to our panel of judges. Our 2nd place winner, Jordis Koper! Photographer Statement: There was a girl, who lived in Evansville WI, whose name was…..Jordis!!! She was 12 years old! It started in a house a long way off in a small town called Evansville a virus happened. Covid 19. It was a normal couple times a year cold for the most part but when and if it got into your lungs it would not be any cold. It started in China and spread throughout the entire world! When the virus, Covid 19 also known as Coronavirus started, Jordis was stuck inside. “Oh Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,” she said! “I can’t be stuck inside. That’s IMPOSSIBLE. I can’t see friends, it, it, it's not possible! What teenage (well almost) girl is just supposedly supposed to stay inside and be OK with it.” “Ugh. I guess I have to,” she said to herself. She had to find something to do in this horrible time. It was a boring life at home and she couldn’t do ANYTHING! She sat in her amazing, one of a kind (not really!), beautiful, magnificent, ok you get the point room! She thought of all the things she could do. Then she remembered the chickens she could go play with! She could get fresh air and have fun while staying away from other people. She played with them almost everyday, collected their eggs, and had lots of fun! She loved to play with them especially through this hard, boring time. The picture she took was with a chicken named Pearl! It was a white Silkie chicken breed. Her picture showed how she loved the chickens and how she loved taking care of them and collecting their eggs! Jordis also helped out with taking care of her baby sister and helping out her parents. Being inside, Jordis didn’t mind because she was homeschooled anyway but she was very bored still at home. Doing homeschool was fun for Jordis and she liked it very much so she liked online school.
