Son Goku ENFP - Dragon Ball Z MBTI - NF (The Inspirer)
This is Goku’s proper typing and personality from the manga, Japanese dub, and DBZ Kai. The old funimation dub messed up his character and changed the script so this is the proper explanation on Goku’s character and personality type in the manga series and DBZ Kai and Japanese version of the show portraying the character. Goku uses Ne, Extroverted Intiution not Se, Extroverted Sensing. He’s not ESFP, he’s not ISFP, he’s ENFP. He uses Ne along with his Fi, and is apart of the Idealist NF Temperament. This post further explained down below will tell you why Goku is an ENFP and help express his actual character for people to better understand him, his behaviors, and his role in the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z series.
Goku’s character outside of Japan is largely misunderstood, even sometimes by veteran fans that claim they know the character and and seen the proper versions of the series I stated above. So to clear up all the confusion on Goku’s true character, here’s why Goku’s character and Myers-Briggs personality is ENFP and how he uses Ne and the other functions in the series.
Most people do get his personality type right though but some people out there still dispute him and misunderstand his character, so here you go so all this confusion around him can finally come to an end. Here’s why Goku’s personality type is ENFP and how he uses each function in the series of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
Dominant function: Extroverted Intuition, (Ne)
Goku is a character who lives in a world of possibilities as a fighter and martial artist and is always imagining how he can constantly improve and what's possible out there to help him improve as a martial artist. His character is all about constant self-improvement and he is a true definition of martial artist, a lesson who he also learned from Master Roshi as a kid. He's always imagining what fighters are out there in order to continue to help himself get stronger and he's always thinking of new possible ways that are out there for him to get stronger and improve as a martial artist. He's able to see his own potential and the potential in other fighters, friends, family, and opponents and enemies he meets and he always is interested in bringing out that potential, in both himself and others, to see what's possible for them and how far they can go as a martial artist and fighter. Once he learns a new technique or makes an accomplishment he immediately starts thinking about the future and what's next possible thing there is for him to learn and continue to grow as a martial artist, he doesn't like to sit still and worry about the present, he's always thinking about the next thing to improve himself even if he reaches a goal in that moment in time. He's able to come up with unique ideas to beat his opponents and get an edge, he uses his techniques in creative ways and even combines them to further improve his skills even more, and he is able to intuitively learn techniques sometimes as well with no prior training or experience even.He did this perfectly with his signature move the Kamehameha wave, he learned the technique himself after only seeing Master Roshi do it once and then intuitively did the move himself on a car and learned the technique without any prior training or practice to figure out how to use the Kameha wave and learn it properly.
Auxiliary function: Introverted Feeling, (Fi)
Goku is a very value based person and individualistic character. He constantly battles with doing the utilitarian thing for all people and what's best and giving into his own desires when he's faced with dire decisions that important in the show when they arise. He let Vegeta go so that he could fight him again, a combination of his Saiyan instinct and his personality, he thought Vegeta dying there would be wasted potential and he wanted a rematch one day. He let Frieza go full power despite it being a bad decision for all the people in danger against frieza. An action that's associated with his Ne + his Fi, with him seeing more potential in Frieza as a fighter and him desiring to beat him at his best and use Freiza also to improve himself. His Ne coupled with his Fi saw hidden potential in Gohan and he knew how to bring it out and wanted Gohan's body optimal so he could fight cell. He kept Gohan in the fight even though he was losing at that point and said he'll be fine. It took until Piccolo's speech for Goku to realize Gohan's pacifist nature and that he didn't love fighting as much as him which made Goku finally wake up. Goku battling with his recklessness and selfishness is a core part of his character, he values his desires, ethic, and values above all else and will go to extreme lengths to maintain them even if the other characters around them are upset and try to talk him out of things and the decisions that he makes. Goku’s character is pure of heart and he generally trusts most people and tries to see the best in everyone give everybody a fair chance.
Tertiary function: Extroverted Thinking, (Te)
Whenever Goku finds a possibility and things he's interesting in, mostly involving him to get stronger, he goes through it to the end and gets very happy and excited to pursue his goal. He is a hard-worker and stays focused on the task at hand to get the task done and continue his training even if he's falling apart. He has very good leadership skills and the rest of his friends and family look up to him for his positive traits and leadership abilities. When he's learning a technique he's very interested in and even feels like he is almost there to learning it or completing the training, he never gives up and follows through the hard work till the end and continues to move forward toward his goal.
Inferior function: Introverted Sensing, (Si)
He struggles to stay focused on details and isn't good with paying attention to his environment and surroundings and always has his head in the clouds. After he experiences something he tries his best to take note of it and innovate and figure out a new possibility that's available to him in order to improve as a fighter and learn new techniques, this mentality is how he learned the kameha wave after only being exposed to the experience once with no prior training after. When characters come at him with minor details and responsibilities he looks at them funny and wonders why everyone worries so much and just doesn't take it easy and focus important things that he sees from the perspective in his mind, like having fun, training, imagining new experiences and potential fighters in the world, where the next adventure will take him and so on. He thinks people get too uptight and you should relax, enjoy life, and look forward to the next potential thing and possibility that can happen tomorrow and in the future for everyone. Staying optimistic, being carefree, and daydreaming about the next possible thing tomorrow and way to self-improve as a martial artist are core themes to Goku's character. Meaningless details and duties are a distraction and life's is seen as eternal journey of possibility and wonder for him and his character.
