Rowan Feldivere, Faeforton
Rowan is trying to catch himself dinner when Faeforton comes strollllling along.
Warnings: None!
Rowan Feldivere stood on the shoreline, fishing pole in hand. Bobber sitting out in the water. He radiated a faint sense of frustration as somewhere off in the water his drake was probably stealing his catches. Rowan grumbled to himself scratching at the branches on his head. A few were broken and scabbed over but healing. In the distance the drake's head surfaced from the water and then vanished again. “Oi,” Rowan shouted from where he stood. "Could you knock it off for just a second!" But it was too late, the lizard was gone again, bubbles breaking the surface.
Faeforton shouldn't have been out of the Grove - not now that he was feeling so... delicate, so to say - but the oppressive swirl of other Sylvari's emotions had grown too heavy for him, and here he was, immeasurably more cheerful in the silence of the Soundless village. Emotional silence at least; there was a shout from up ahead that drew his attention, and Fae craned his neck to try and see down the path, just in time to watch the drake disappear beneath the surface. He came up beside the other Sylvari with a grin on his face.
Rowan's attention was not drawn by the emotions the other radiated but rather by his footsteps. He lifted his head for a moment to look up... no wait down. At the other. This was new. "Are you lost?"
Faeforton shook his head, ferns bouncing. "Not at all. I visit here often," he said Unusually, he didn't have to look far up to meet the other's eyes; other than his sister, he was used to being dwarfed. "Is that your drake?"
Rowan just nodded and frowned as she surfaced for a moment, just her nose above the water. "Yes that petulant little beast is mine," He grumbles to himself with a heavy sigh. "Having an absolutely fantastic time with MY catch." He just huffs and lets his shoulders sag and grip on the rod go slack.
Fae laughed, not unkindly. "A friend of mine has a murellow - he's awful. She’ll tell you she has him under control, but then he makes eyes at her and gets whatever he wants. Do you mind?" Already, he was unslinging the pack over his chest, but he looked up at the other for permission before sitting. “I’m Faeforton, by the way.”
Rowan shakes his head. "No not at all." He says as he watches him take a seat. "Oxanna is hardly so spoiled. But I am not about to wrestle a meal from a hungry drake." He says with a nervous laugh. He paused for a moment and then offered his hand to shake. "I am Rowan Feldivere." He says simply.
Fae took the hand for an awkward shake now that he was seating in the sand at Rowan's feet. "Pleased to meet you. Do you live here?" Propping his head in his hand, he alternated between watching the drake cavorting in the cool water and looking up at Rowan.
Rowan shakes his head. "No... I simply come here when I’ve nothing to do. Its peaceful." He says as he sits down as well. It felt awkward to be talking down like that.
Fae nodded in agreement. "It is... that's why I'm here. I don't understand how anyone can enjoy living in the Grove," he said, muffled by his own hand. "I’d rather live anywhere else."
Rowan lifted his eyebrows for a moment and then heaved a sigh. "I have not been able to live there for some time now. Not since the dragon made its presence known. The despair... and fear... it is too overwhelming even though it isn’t always prevalent.”
Fae poked a finger through a hole in the hem of his skirt, idy pulling at the fabric. “The Dragon is why I'm there at all," he said morosely. "Did you live there before?"
Rowan shakes his head. "No. I honestly prefer the Shiverpeaks and Hoelbrak to the Grove. Again... as I said it is a bit overwhelming." He shrugs a bit, "I had a friend try and force me to stay in the Grove not long ago. I couldn't stand it. She meant well though."
Fae says. "My friend is keeping me there. She only wants to protect me, and… I know I should stay. I know it’s the safest place." He sighs heavily. “Overwhelming is the word for it."
Rowan frowns as he glances to Fae, "It seems you're in a similar position then. If it’s overwhelming. Go some place else? Stay in this area? That's what I ended up compromising with.” He shrugs.
Faeforton shakes his head. "I... can't. Not really." He sighs, pushes his ferns back over his shoulders, and straightens with a sudden grin. "Ha, I apologize - this isn't what came here for. Is your drake alright? She's been down there a while.”
Rowan laughs dryly, "Oh Oxanna is fine. She is probably waiting for me to recast." He says as he starts to pull in the line. "That is unfortunate though."
Fae shrugs one shoulder, resigned. "It is what it is... Haha, she's waiting on you to do the actual work is she?” Leaning back, he snags his bag and drags it closer to him in order to flip it open.
Rowan nods as he pulls the line in and checks the hook. Yep the bait was gone. He fished in his pockets and hooks some dubious looking goop on the end before tossing the line as far as he could into the shallows. "That seems to be her way. But she earns her keep so I’m hardly in any position to protest." He says as the Drake's head pops back up. Her eyes happy before the swims off.
Fae grins as he watches the display. "Well, here - you can share my food,” he says, digging through the pack now to find a small, carefully-wrapped package. "Nothing fancy, just dumplings, but my friend is a very good cock." He unwraps the package and balances it on his knee.
Rowan looks over wide eyed, "Um... really?" He asks looking incredibly surprised. "... thank you." He says with a warm smile before he takes one of the dumplings. He takes a bite and gives a little shudder of delight. "By the tree it's been so long since love had a decent meal that wasn't roasted meat on a stick."
Fae laughs. "If you visit the Grove, feel free to drop in. We're all three of us crammed into one room in the Terrace, but my friend would be delighted to cook for you." He shoves a dumpling into his mouth and dusts the crumbs off onto the sand, speaking around the food in his mouth. "We always have leftovers."
Rowan laughs a little, "Thank you but I don't know that I will anytime soon unfortuantely. But the offer is appreciated!”
Fae nudges his knee closer to Rowan. "Take these, at least. We're always foisting the leftovers on the neighbors as it is."
Rowan smiles and takes them. "Thank you very much! This will definitely save me a few silver. And upset stomachs as well..."
Fae nods, grinning around his mouthful. "And you've saved the neighbors. They must be fed up with us by now, to be honest. Your drake may not be too happy about it, though."
Rowan shakes his head. "Hah! She'll get over it. Or shove me into a hole somewhere." He says with a shrug. as he takes another bite. Oxanna could be seen surfacing from time to time in excitement.
Fae chuckles as he watches the drake. "Well, I hope she doesn't - she seems like she can fend for herself, even if she doesn't like to." With a sigh, he pushes himself to his feet. "I should be returning, though, or my friend will worry. Thank you for letting me interrupt you!"
Rowan nods and stands. "That’s fine. Take care of yourself." He says with a smile.
