Tomorrow I start another semester at college and I'm pretty pissed off. My stomachaches has been the worst lately, it feels like I'm burning inside. I've been super tired and dizzy all the time. And let's not talk about back pain...

Writing as a brave step
At a recent festival I exhibited in I asked the audience to comment about their own experience of ill health - maybe their own, maybe someone they love.
One of the questions was ‘What would your next brave step be?’ Maybe it is actually telling family or friends just how unwell you are. Of admitting to your friend who is unwell that you don’t know how to help them but want to. I thought that this probably meant that I should be doing my next brave step. I have become quite comfortable with putting my art out there into the world but not so much my writing - so I am going to attempt to put some writing out there - nothing lengthy or especially in-depth and possibly always written with a desperate attempt to keep it at arms length, even though it is personal.
Yes, each of these pieces are edited, reviewed, changed and the more intensely personal bits left on the journal page. They aren’t even necessarily true all the time, but they feel true sometimes. I do not try to fit into any form, they aren’t really poetry, or stories and certainly not essays - instead they sit much closer to raw and unpolished thoughts, taken from moments of honesty and re-formed in moments of greater clarity- but not altered unrecognisable.
