To say that Theo had been dreading this day since her friends gave her a heads up that her ex-husband Silas would also be attending would be an understatement. Or maybe that was wrong, to be honest she didn’t know what she was feeling. She was so so excited to see two of her best friends get married, Nick and Leo were perfect together and she wouldn’t miss today for the world. It was just that the last time she had seen Silas was when they were in court to get their divorce finalize. That had been years ago and she had done everything she could to not run into him again, even her friends had done their best to ensure that the pair wasn’t invited to the same things. Sometimes it sucked to miss out on events but it was nice that they were considerate and didn’t pressure the two of them to try and be friends. But now she had to see him and that was kind of terrifying.
She had used their time apart to really get to know herself, learn about who she was outside of Silas but there were still times that she missed having him around. Theo did fine on her own, but when someone was in your life for as long as Silas was in hers you kind of got used to them. Deep down she knew the divorce was the best thing, at least for her it was. She hadn’t been in love with him like she used to be, there had been days she couldn’t even stand him. She had lost herself in everything, she felt like she was suffocating and she could only imagine how he felt, it’s not like she got much of a clear picture because at a certain point they weren’t really communicating all that well.
Today was not about them, she just kept reminding herself of that. It was super helpful that she had been able to get read with a few of her friends, she had settled on a forest green velvet suit, it was a winter wedding and it seemed fitting. And not once did she wonder if Silas would like it, definitely not because totally did not care about what he thought... Not one bit... She silently scolded herself for thinking about him so much, the only good thing was that no one had brought him up and she was easily distracted by makeup and wedding talk.
Theo had been able to avoid Silas during the ceremony, she sat with her friends who literally surrounded her. It was endearing how much they cared for her. The real problem came when they got to the reception. For some reason she and Silas had been sat at the same table, it kind of made sense because it was their whole friend group together but is was torture. Looking at him while they ate dinner, well technically pretending she wasn’t looking at him while stealing glances at him. He looked so good, like really fucking good. Thank goodness he hadn’t brought a date because she might have been a little jealous if she had seen him with someone else, especially at a wedding. Maybe that was the whiskey talking, but there was a good chance that he had somehow gotten more attractive since they had separated.
She was a few drinks in and a little frustrated that their friends had left them alone because they just had to dance. Now they were alone and she was kind of over just awkwardly checking her phone and pretending like he wasn’t there. “Hey,” she said slightly awkwardly to get his attention. “Do you remember when Nick got so shit-faced at our wedding that he tried to strip in the middle of the dance floor and my mom grabbed him by his ear and pulled him away and put him in a cab and sent him home?” Maybe their wedding wasn’t the best topic of conversation but she didn’t really have much else, she was slightly too tipsy to think clearly. @fromtheashcs
