The woman at the check in desk at the hotel today was genuinely surprised that I drive up from Kent every year to be at Glasgow Comic Con. Let me try to explain why... My mum was born here, she grew up here, and when her parents moved to Kent she moved with them, mat and married my dad and they eventually had me. When I was ten, in 1986, her parents, my grandparents, moved back to Glasgow and we ended up coming up to visit them during school holidays. My grandmother tended to express love by giving me money, which is kinda messed up, but it meant that I regularly found myself in Glasgow with money to burn. Sure, I’d been reading UK comics since I was little, thanks to my grandfather who bought me a weekly comic, and had stumbled on a couple of US comics back in Kent...an issue of Captain America, a couple of early Classic X-Mens...and I bought maybe five or six comics to read on the drive up to Glasgow...during Fall of the Mutants and Amor Wars... And then I was in Glasgow with money in my pocket, obsessed with these amazing new comics I’d just discovered...and I stumbled upon this place. Forbidden Planet. In many ways this is where it began for me. This is where comics turned from a thing I liked to read into my life. My whole life. From that day on I was pretty much set on an inevitable course that’s led me here. To being the EIC of the UK’s leading independent publisher of graphic novels with literally hundreds of published credits to my name, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men and Doctor Who. In a way I owe it all to this city, to Glasgow, and it’s the least I can do to drive 427 miles every year to give something back to the Glasgow comic scene. Now, if only I was actually eligible for a SICBA... #comics #glasgow #glasgowcomiccon #gcc2018 #forbiddenplanet #forbiddenplanetinternational (at Glasgow, United Kingdom)

"Another world. Another time. In the age of wonder. A thousand years ago this land was green and good. Until the crystal cracked. A single piece was lost. A shard of the crystal." But guess who found it? Probably the Darkest thing I've drawn but that's just in the name. @hensoncompany has a lot to answer for in my childhood and I love it 😆 @darkcrystalconjunction @frank__oz #scottishartist #gcc2018 #darkcrystal
