Dex Holder SPECIAL Stats, Part 2 (Ruby - White)
Time to continue, and see if power creep is actually a thing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruby Surely this fancy lad will only be about his charms, right?
Strength: 5 I don't see this guy being too physically oriented. At least not anymore. But he's pretty averagely built, so average Strength stat seems suffice.
Perception: 3 He's a city boy who needs glasses, and really doesn't notice a lot of things, including what he's doing and how that looks from the outside.
Endurance: 9 He takes a Dragon Claw to the head when he's 5 and laughs it off. He also takes a bit of a beating, gets flung by Sapphire, and he's fine.
Charisma: 9 He has a huge following of... I'd imagine mostly girls. His whole shtick is being charming.
Intelligence: 2 I'm going to be harsh. A lot of the crap he does makes no damn sense. This guy pretty much only makes bad decisions. Maybe that Dragon Claw to the head had a lot more repercussions than initially thought. Heh. Sapphire calls him an idiot pretty often. Maybe she's on to something.
Agility: 6 He's someone who's pursuing the finer arts. He's naturally more focused on finer control of his body, rather than brute force.
Luck: 10 The Salamence attack was bad luck. But... he was getting along well with Sapphire, complementing each other. The trauma got both of them to do a 180, thus still complementing each other perfectly anyways, they both have fond memories of each other, they both want to see each other again, they actually do meet again by pure happenstance, they both end up liking each other again anyways, and by pure chance, they both end up going to all sorts of unique places... together, as if on a date! Seafloor, island, cruise, space... Not to mention, Ruby catches a Feebas, which requires insane luck. AND he's been to Mirage Island, which requires even more luck. I've caught Feebas in RS. I've gotten Pokerus twice legitimately. I've gotten 60 something randomly encountered shiny Pokemon from Generation II to VII. Yet I have never been to Mirage Island. And this dude just ends up there. And by pure chance, he winds up with a certain onion fairy that is capable of using Ctrl + Z to undo the negative consequences of his actions. And even without that onion fairy, his stupid actions don't cost him anything except Sapphire's patience.
Total: 44 That's some bullsh*t Luck stat right there. Even though he messes things up regularly, things just work out anyways.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sapphire I don't think her stats will be too surprising...
Strength: 10 She can uproot coconut trees.
Perception: 10 She has insanely tuned senses, AND instincts that act as her "sixth sense". Her Hidden Power test comes to mind...
Endurance: 9 She regularly spars with her starter, which is a Fighting type. Surely she can take hits with that slender frame. Somehow.
Charisma: 2 The things she does is actually repulsive to others. And she lacks basic manners at times...
Intelligence: 8 She's actually quite smart. And it's obvious too. She works for her researcher father, doing field research. She's literally a researcher.
Agility: 9 She's probably insanely agile and have high reflexes. But she lacks finesse of any kind. Her raw stat is hampered a little by the fact that she probably has no idea how to properly use that power.
Luck: 8 Mostly the same as Ruby, except Sapphire doesn't catch a Feebas, and doesn't randomly get an onion fairy. But she does randomly get a rare Dawn Stone by stomping on the ground, that just happens to hit her male Kirlia, thus getting a Gallade. She might not consider it to be lucky, since she wanted a Gardevoir, but that's some chain of bullsh*t right there.
Total: 56 Sapphire imba, must nerf.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emerald And now the little one.
Strength: 1 He's a tiny dude.
Perception: 7 He's somehow something like a gunslinger with his ORAS design and soil gun. And a gunslinger needs to be decently perceptive to aim and hit targets.
Endurance: 2 Well... with that tiny body, he's not going to tank much. So the only thing holding this stat up would be his stamina, which... is mediocre at best, right?
Charisma: 7 Once he's past his own arc, and he's learned to accept himself first, he's a lot more confident and just... normal. He has friends, he's not awkward around them, he's not hiding himself with those weird-ass fake limbs and he's just more natural, which I think is really good. And now he's pretty endearing.
Intelligence: 7 He needs to be decently smart to perform that well at the Battle Frontier. I think it was the Battle Factory that gives you the Knowledge Symbol?
Agility: 7 His tiny body can be advantageous at times, I suppose. And again, gunslinger. Though... how quick is his quickdraw with that soil gun?
Luck: 9 ... You also need a crazy amount of luck to actually get through the Hoenn Battle Frontier. There's a whole facility where you literally do nothing and leave everything to "chance" (the Pokemon's natures decide the course of action). And the Battle Factory.
Total: 40 I expected him to be lower than Yellow, not higher. Stupid Hoenn cast and their insane Luck stats...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diamond One of his stats is probably quite predictable...
Strength: 3 I think he's too slow to really accomplish much in a fight, and it's not like he's shown to have exceptional muscle power.
Perception: 7 He notices right off the bat that Platinum isn't a tour guide. Though... maybe that's more of Pearl's fault for not noticing. And Diamond is a lot more perceptive than he lets on.
Endurance: 8 He regularly gets smacked by Pearl, which does look really painful. And he gets hit by Shadow Force that... did no damage?
Charisma: 9 He's quite charming and endearing. He befriends a lot of people in short time.
Intelligence: 7 He's smarter than he lets on, and figures out unique attacks from just a few observations that no one else did before him or after. But he's not shown to be highly technical or knowledgeable.
Agility: 1 He has like... negative Speed Priority applied on him at all times. He may have much more computing power than a brick, but he sure moves like one. The fastest way for him to move is for someone else to fling him.
Luck: 5 He meets Platinum through sheer chance and coincidence. But... is that good for him? Well, sure, he gets to meet and befriend Platinum Berlitz. But at the same time, he got dragged into quite a bit of trouble too. Being dragged into the Reverse World by Giratina isn't exactly a fortunate event. So... net neutral?
Total: 40 Not too shabby. Would've been a lot higher if he didn't move at a snail's pace.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pearl The other knight. I guess I'll be a bit harsher...
Strength: 5 Eh... average.
Perception: 6 He doesn't notice that Platinum isn't a tour guide. And he doesn't notice that something's weird about the "prize" that led to meeting Platinum. But he does have that ability to see what a Pokemon is going to do before it actually does it, from subtle clues alone.
Endurance: 6 I don't remember him taking any damage of sorts, but he probably has the stamina to back his hastiness. ... Does willpower count as durability or stamina?
Charisma: 4 He tends to scream at people, which is a no-no. But otherwise normal and not repulsive.
Intelligence: 7 He has a lot of battling knowledge, and is the one who knows what problems Platinum is having and how to resolve it with subtle clues. But the fact that he never noticed that the situation was quite different than what he assumed...
Agility: 7 He has quick reflexes to be able to act upon his detection, but... overall finesse? Hmm... I don't know about that one.
Luck: 5 He doesn't get dragged into the Reverse World, but the lake he's on blows up. ... Or was that only in the games? Does Lake Valor blow up in the manga?
Total: 40 Tied with Diamond despite all that. Well, they're literally a double act. When there's one, there's the other.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Platinum My favorite. What kind of preferential treatment would she get?
Strength: 1 A sheltered heiress is not going to have any sort of physical proficiency. If a physical confrontation happens and no one is there to fight on her behalf, she's screwed.
Perception: 9 Tad bit high? Maybe. But she notices right off the bat that there's something strange with Diamond and Pearl being her bodyguards. But she chooses to believe that it's a part of the plan, since she's not explicitly told otherwise, and it's also her first time venturing outside, really. How is she supposed to know? And also important to note, she can "thread the needle" between rapidly moving objects incredibly easily. Also known as the slot machine ability, which she's able to utilize in actual battles. And she recognizes the subtle clues that Pearl leaves for her whenever she's stuck in a Gym Battle. That's pretty perceptive. Why is it not 10? Because Sapphire. That's why.
Endurance: 1 A sheltered heiress isn't going to have much durability, and she also tires kind of easily. It shouldn't be a surprise that she's the most fragile Dex Holder. I thought about giving her a 2 at least, since she does seem to have fun with exercise equipment in Veilstone City. But... I think she's just way too fragile for anything higher than 1. She's also unconscious quite a few times, even more than Blue despite only appearing for one arc.
Charisma: 9 As the arc develops, and Platinum begins to open up a lot more, she becomes a truly charming person, complete with perfect manners and politeness. And so she ends up befriending quite a few people when she's on her own. But she's certainly not like Red, who ends up charming and earning the respect of his enemies.
Intelligence: 10 Duh. If she doesn't have 10, who the hell does.
Agility: 4 She has good reflexes, but also doesn't really move from her spot. Her choice of action is rather than dodging, she just prevents the action that would force her to dodge. Which... apparently means that she just doesn't get involved in fights where that becomes a possibility. She doesn't fight Jupiter (she watches), she doesn't fight Dialga/Palkia, and she certainly doesn't fight Giratina. It's not like she's slow or anything, but certainly not nimble.
Luck: 10 I have to give her a 10 here. The chance encounter with Diamond and Pearl is what actually saves her. If the chance mishap didn't happen and Platinum just traveled with her actual bodyguards, they would not be letting her experience anything that's potentially dangerous, which prevents her growth and development. She would not be training herself as a Pokemon trainer. She would not know how to fight back. And Team Galactic could already dispose of the two guards anyways. If that's all Platinum had, she would've been doomed. But by sheer chance, she meets Diamond and Pearl instead, who then act as a second layer of defense when Team Galactic does attack and dispose of the actual guards. And since Diamond and Pearl are not professional bodyguards, they let her experience all sorts of potentially dangerous things, which allows her to grow, all without actually being harmed. And it just so happens that Pearl is the son of the Tower Tycoon! He knows a thing or two about training! How lucky. So Platinum already had at least a +2 plot shield armor, and without me adding on top of it in my stuff. And it just so happens that Diamond and Pearl's personalities are what Platinum needs to develop properly. She needs someone like Pearl, who'd yell at her and hurt her pride, which then forces her to rise up to the challenge. But she also needs someone gentle like Diamond, who'd never lose patience with her and also cheer her up when she's down. ... And Platinum also got the colored symbol for the Battle Factory, which I never got, because the thing kept screwing me over. That place requires more luck than knowledge. Oh, and she gets Pokerus. And also a Manaphy Egg, which is exceedingly rare. Or supposed to be, anyways.
Total: 44 I didn't think her stats would be this high. Huh. ... Is this bias? Hmm. Well, she has two 1s and two 10s, so... balance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Black The only one who has an active permanent debuff. Hehe...
Strength: 6 He's not a weakling, right? And he's also been carrying White in his arms, and... doesn't she basically weigh the same as he does? Or am I remembering that wrong? Hehehe...
Perception: 9 (-8) When he's not blinded by his dreams (though I don't know if that's still an issue), he's incredibly perceptive. But when he is blinded, he's... well, blind to almost everything around him. So he has that debuff since his normal state is the blind one. I'm sure his debuff gets weaker as time goes on, so he's not like... super blind by the time of the Light Stone Incident. And he does spend 2 years in that thing by himself with no way out, so maybe he's learned to overcome that shortness.
Endurance: 6 I don't remember much of the BW arc, except... White falling off the thing, the Light Stone Incident, and some sweet moments between the two. But since Black was the one doing the actual battling and stuff, I'm sure he got smacked here and there pretty badly.
Charisma: 6 He's endearing in his own right, but I wouldn't say "charming" by any means.
Intelligence: 8 He's a smart dude, and well knowledgeable due to his extensive studies in preparation for the Pokemon League. I doubt he has any knowledge of anything else, however.
Agility: 4 I don't think finesse and nimbleness is his forte.
Luck: 4 He meets White by sheer chance and... destroys her equipment, but she happened to be nice enough to not charge him for the damages, and allows him to work it off. And his meeting with her is definitely a positive for him, even if he probably thought that she was just a nuisance for his objective at the start. That said... there were 5 others who got turned into stone, none of which have a Luck stat higher than 4. Black here also gets turned into stone... sort of... and unlike the other 5, he's been in there for 2 years that somehow felt like 6, so... maybe that's even unluckier. Though at least he was able to move around inside that thing and do something, unlike Silver.
Total: 43 I'm not counting the debuff, at least.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
White My usual go-to victim. I mean...
Strength: 4 While I doubt she'd be any good in a brawl, she was able to lift up Black by the collar of his shirt. And they have similar physical specs (height, weight), if I remember correctly. If not... whoops. My bad.
Perception: 8 She has an eye for talent, though I don't know if that should count. But at the very least, she's very good at interpersonal communications, and a lot of that requires catching subtle hints of the other side. And she would've had to recognize opportunities in unfamiliar battling situations for her to progress as far as she did.
Endurance: 7 She falls off the Ferris wheel and not sustain any actual damage... somehow. And she'd need to have some stamina as the owner of a company who basically have to work overtime every time.
Charisma: 9 Interpersonal skills. She's very good at it. Even if it doesn't really work against a certain kid who may or may not be a synth. But her Charisma should be high, especially after the Ferris wheel slipup, where she learned to accept other views.
Intelligence: 7 Despite her not battling at all for almost her entire life, she learns pretty damn quickly, and has apparently demonstrated her understanding of battling concepts, though they were off-screen.
Agility: 3 I remember her failing to run away from a Deerling because she tripped over nothing. Hmm... And the slip from the Ferris wheel also doesn't work in her favor. She fell like a brick.
Luck: 6 I would say that she's decently lucky. Her random encounter with Black does change her life for the better, though... I guess you could argue if it really was for the better, when she spent two years looking for him afterwards, but... hmm...
Total: 44 Huh, look at that. Higher than Black.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Ranking: 1: Sapphire (56) 2: Crystal (49) 3: Silver (45) 4/5/6: Ruby/Platinum/White (44) 7/8/9: Red/Blue/Black (43) 10: Green (42) 11/12/13/14: Gold/Emerald/Diamond/Pearl (40) 15: Yellow (37)
Hmm. I didn't expect Platinum to be in the top 5. But it's not done yet, and I'm fairly certain that Moon at least would have higher SPECIAL stats than her.
And of course Sapphire would be on top with that gag-manga-esque power.
