Fun project today! We had a 50's era Buffet Bb Clarinet that had a throat Bb so stuffy and flat it wasn't even the correct note. We pulled the register tube, opened it up slightly, re-installed and sealed with paraffin. THEN we made this cool insert for the register key pad called a "Hasty" insert. It's a tapered insert made of Delrin (hard rubber basically), and the theory is that it pushes the sound out beyond the flat surface of the cork pad. This is a modification that we use sparingly, because sometimes the complaint is that it makes the instrument too bright.
