As some of you may be aware, Melanie Martinez is releasing a new single today ahead of her new album.
Do NOT listen to it on any platform that gives her money- Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, etc. If you must listen to it, wait for it to be reuploaded somewhere that doesn't put money directly in her pockets.
She is an ageplayer, rapist, and abuser- to animals and humans. She reposted CSAM of 17-year-old Jennette McCurdy when she was 20, on the very site you're reading this on. She talked to and hung out with underage children as an adult. She even moved Lucy Loone into her house when the latter was 14 (and the fact Lucy only left when they were 18 makes this even MORE suspect.) She sold shitty, overpriced merch, including cups that contained LEAD. She's used AI to generate "art." She cosplays other people's trauma as her "aesthetic." She's a "feminist" and yet glorifies misogynistic principles in her music. She claims she "goes into debt for her art," and yet she shops at Erewhon and lives in a $2,000,000, 5-bedroom house with a custom pool in San Fernando Valley, where all the other rich people live. She's lead to ENTIRE communities of young girls online being taken advantage of and groomed- the very thing she's apparently so against. Even without all that, she's rude, pretentious, and shitty in general. Everything she does is performative.
I hate to have to make multiple posts about this, but seeing how many people are changing their tune about her and going back to her fanbase, I feel we need a reminder of her actions. Her Spotify numbers were decreasing, but they've seen a slight rebound, which worries me. A shitty rebrand cannot distract us from all of this.
If you're a Melanie fan reading this, it's the least you can do to boycott this new album. Don't give her the resources to continue this behaviour. Listen to anything else today, please. And please, spread this message to as many eyes as possible.
