Prithviraj is the son of famous yesteryear actor Sukumaran, and actress Mallika Sukumaran. His father Sukumaran was an award winning actor who became known for his character roles and antagonistic roles during the 1980s and 1990s. His mother Mallika Sukumaran (once married to actor Jagathy Sreekumar) was a film actress before she later turned to tele-serials. They had two sons, both Malayalam film stars in their own right: Prithviraj and his older brother Indrijith. Sukumaran had his own production company, which he aptly named after his children, called ‘Indraraj Creations’. In June 1997, Sukumaran suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. Prithviraj’s older brother married actress Poornima Mohan (now Poornima Indrijith), who worked in a small number of films and a tele-serial in which Mallika was also in. They have two daughters, Prarthana and Nakshatra. On 25 April 2011, Prithviraj married BBC reporterSupriya Menon in a private ceremony at Palakkad.
