David procedure ie. valve sparing aortic root replacement
Norwood procedure ie 3-stage heart surgery to create new functional systemic circuit in patients w hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
Batista procedure ie. partial left ventriculectomy.
Ross procedure ie. pulmonary autograft: diseased aortic valve replaced with patient’sown pulmonary valve.
Bentall procedure ie aortic root replacement: composite graft replacement of aortic valve, aortic root, and ascending aorta w reimplantation of coronary arteries into graft.
Marfan syndrome: genetic disorder of connective tissue, usually associated with flexible joints and scoliosis. Most serious complications involve heart and aorta with an increased risk of mitral valve prolapse and aortic aneurysm.
Aortic aneurysm: dilation of aorta to >1.5x than normal, cause weakness in aorta walls and increase risk of aortic rupture (which can lead to massive internal bleeding and shock and death).
Aortic dissection: tear in wall of aorta --> blod can flow in between layers of vessel wall.
Sylvian fissure ie. lateral sulcus: separates frontal and parietal lobes superiorly from temporal lobe inferiorly.
Sternotomy: vertical inline incision made along sternum.
Heparin: anticoagulant used to treat and prevent blood clots in veins, arteries, or lungs. Used to treat medical conditions or before surgery to reduce risk of clots.
Heparin-induced THrombocytopenia ie heparin allergy: lead to low platelet count and life-threatening blood clots.
Beta blockers: drugs that prevent stimulation of adrenergic receptors (sympathetic) responsible for increased cardiac action, used to control heart rhythm, treat angina, and reduce hypertension.
Myocardial infarction: heart attack due to ischemia.
