Supernatual mytharc
With buzz about a season 16 building its more than a little annoying that a lot of fans are really sold on the Chuck Won theory or still circling the proverbial drain that Destiel is queerbait and the writers are incompetent and homophobic to boot. So, I'll lay it out real simple. Now this is like the Idiots Guide to SPN mytharc cuz yall apparently failed media literacy and identifying literary devices is a faux pas.
CASTIEL SAVED HIMSELF. HE DOES NOT NEED TO BE SAVED FROM ANYWHERE. HE'S LITERALLY A "GOD" IN THE NEW UNIVERSE THAT HE AND JACK CREATED.
The Empty DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. The Empty was the burial ground for angels and demons so their cosmic power could be used to "run" heaven. See: Grigorii and the power of Heaven "failing" when Duma tried to manipulate Jack into making bastard angels.
Chuck was destroyed when Jack absorbed his cosmic power. Jack draining the plant of its life was the foreshadowing. The husk of the plant was still there and that's what Carver Edlund was/is. Now Carver Edlund is just a man.
JACK WAS THE BOMB. Billie was powering Jack up to destroy Chuck and Amara because Billie (oozing black goo) wanted to usurp the power and she was going to use Jack for that. Arguably, Chuck "knew" this. Or he was just a liar and winging it to convince Amara to surrender herself. Either way Billie was successful in making Jack the bomb. When she sent Jack to the Empty, he "made it loud." He destroyed the barrier between the Empty (angel and demon burial ground) and "Heaven" (burial ground for humans). See Castiel being bumped into Heaven's hallway and the Cosmic Entity (black goo now) entering heaven and possessing Duma. So essentially Jack broke the universe.
Here's the humanistic part that everyone is apparently blind to. Billie and The Entity wanted whatever it was about Castiel (ie freewill) and thats why Billie went mad and Duma(Empty) made the deal. Castiel was and always will be the vehicle of Free Will which means he is the only being who can be Truly Happy and Complete. Because he existed, somehow, outside of Chuck's little play. SELF ACTUALIZATION: Castiel has his "moment of happiness" in finally telling Dean that he loves him. Everyone gets real hung up on the "one thing I can't have" and yes its applicable to Dean. Newsflash: things can have multiple meanings. BUT the one thing Castiel truly wants he cant have is: Dean to love himself and see himself the way Castiel sees him. Hence the entirety of his final speech trying to convince Dean to love himself the way I love you. And THAT is what makes Castiel Complete, understanding that each person has to love themselves like someone who loves them. See: Mary Winchester is Complete, at peace, when she dies the second time.
Where Dean is: he's stuck in The proverbial Veil between worlds, between realities--if you haven't watched The Winchesters, you should--because he's still running away from facing his ultimate destiny (death). In TW he says he's "searching for a universe where his family gets a happy ending." Meaning, he's searching for a universe where he and Cas live happily ever after and his parents live happily ever after. But he won't find it because Castiel here is the "only one who didn't do his job." But Dean remains stubborn as ever and refuses to believe it. Go ahead and read into Dean's stubbornness yourself. Here's a hint: Dean is the audience surrogate.
