Number 15: Sweetheart (2019) Source: Netflix Runtime: 1hr 22m Stuck on a desolate island, a young woman is being stalked by a bloodthirsty predator that hunts at night. Think Lord of the Flies if you were alone and “The Beast” was real. I like a good survivalist story. Couple that with a murderous monster and you’ve got quite a tale. It’s a woman vs nature story which, to me, are the most scary. Even though it’s about an imagined creature the survival of the fittest aspect is very realistic. In Sweetheart we’re forced to confront the frailty of the human form, our dependency on the bare necessities and each other and the threat that we might not always be at the top of the food chain. I also appreciate a horror movie starring and directed by people of color. Though I understand shying away from CGI, I think the special effects department left plenty of room for improvement. Still, I’m awarding it a commendable 3.25/4. #JDDillard #KierseyClemons #sweetheart #halloween #ScaryMovie #Horror#Survivalist #Scary #Netflix #NetflixAndChill #HalloweenMovie #FilmReview #MovieCritic #Movies #Films https://www.instagram.com/p/CVEoyLVrwdzBDRDMnhFxzxIMzqTLZaGBlmwj080/?utm_medium=tumblr
