On February 27, 81 years ago, Caesar A. Zeppeli died wanting to help Jojo, thus leaving our hero shattered.

So, in the light of Joseph's 99th birthday, I kept thinking this: he had 80 years of outliving caesar to think about his old friend/rival. 80. Years. That's a lot of time. Surely, he's learned to cope with the loss in all that time, but I like to imagine that when he looks into the full length mirror everyday to get his outfit straight, he cant help but to see Caesar standing next to him, looking upon his old, wrinkled face and making some comment here and there just about how old he's gotten. Granted, these aren't malicious comments--they're just mischievous, light-hearted jabs, the same kinds they used to readily trade back and forth in their youth.

Yet, it was not the same. Caesar looked as young as when he died while he talked and joked with Joesph, an elderly and sickly grandpa and great-grandpa. To onlookers, it may look like a young man poking light fun at his own grandfather rather than two best friends. It was always like this, and when someone entered the room, Caesar had vanished out of sight just as suddenly and seemlessly as he had appeared. Perhaps, Joseph thought, he was finally going senile.
