The Official Joyverse Rundown

Another fic done, another rundown post!

Part One: Description

my heart will stop in joy is a series I made between 13 May 2023 and 22 September 2023 for the Night at the Museum fandom. In it, a painting in a temporary exhibit begins to steal memories, swapping them for false ones.

The Joyverse is the universe that the series takes place in. Memories are highly important, and they exist on a physical level in the form of trauma, whether that’s literal scarring and lost limbs, or panic attacks and unease.

The story is told in retrospect from the perspective of Hadrian, a little robot built in one of Rome’s forges. He’s playing the events from his memory drive to help his creator recall what happened.

Themes include memory loss and alteration, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and selfishness.

How in the heck do you pronounce Epti’s name?

I dunno. It’s meant to be a mishmash of suffixes. Ask Ivan Seal, not me.

What’s with the birds?

They’re symbols of death in several cultures. Ahk’s ibis specifically is meant to represent Thoth, who’s often shown alongside Anubis, the one who weighs the hearts of the dead. Octavius’s eagle is the exception — the eagle (or aquila, if you so prefer) was a symbol of Rome as a whole.

Is Memoria dead?

In the narrative, it’s unclear. In reality, I don’t plan to write her again.
