It had just been a dare. Just a game. Until Yasuko's lips crashed against hers. Soft. She tasted like peaches and the cheap alcohol they'd been drinking. Just a kiss. Until Lin saw color for the first time in her life.
She pulled away and noticed for the first time Yasuko's green eyes, red lips and nails. Her breath caught in her throat. Her eyes wandered down to Yasuko's chest. Her blouse was pink and what color was her bra ? Oh. No bra.
Lin's cheeks were red. Red as the sun and as Yasuko saw red for the first time she lifted up the smaller girl, pressing her against the wall kissing her again. No dare needed.
For shipping bingo please ( sorry if this is too many ships or ones you’ve already done ) kyalin, linzolt, Linsuko and Opalvira ? Would love to hear your thoughts. Have a lovely day 💗🤍
Okay, technology didn't want to be my friend. Let's try answering this again. Sorry for the delay!
Kyalin
So there's a few hiccups for me with the kyalin pairing. First, Lin was in love with Tenzin. So dating his older sister afterwards seems a little awkward (not that it hasn't happened before irl). Secondly, they really are polar opposites, while some people do say they attract; those relationships really require a lot of common ground to stay happyily ever after. I feel these two get paired due to similar age vs actual plausibility. However, with that being said, I have been inspired to write poetry from fanart with these two. I wouldn't be opposed to a good fic that addresses and handles these pairing concerns in a clever way. So, not a OTP for me, but not ruled out by any means.
Linzolt
So I actually had to look this one up. My first instinct was 'no way'. However, putting to bed my reservations and giving it some thought, I suppose it -could- be in the realm of plausibility. I think this pairing would have to go way back, and have some kind of catalyst that brings them together because we already know Lin is usually very by the book as they say. They would have some really big challenges to make the ship work but i think if handled with due thought; it could make for quite the journey of love with lots of road bumps and angst etc.
Linsuko
You've hit me with some good rarepairs because I also had to look this ship up ha! I'm assuming we are talking Lin x Asami’s mom. Tell me more! Torrent affair? How did it come about? Does the timeline change when Lin comes about? I can see threads of something perhaps there. It doesn't feed my muses but I would be interested in seeing the creative liberties taken with this pairing.
Opalvira
I might turn a few heads with this one but, it doesn't bother me. I could see the transition from fighting in youth to lovers in teens etc. Sort of path. I would be open to reading fics regarding this pairing and enjoying fanart depictions. I think there would need to be a way for them to overcome the jealousy and hurt that happens in their shared childhood. I would also be interested in a fic that sort of addresses the challenges they face with keeping their love a secret or what happens when it's discovered :)
Lin and Yasuko went to the same private high school, and even though Lin was a few years older, they were part of the same friend group. The two of them were always the first ones to head home after school because Lin had to watch Suyin and Yasuko had to help out at her mother's salon, so they often rode the streetcar together and grew their friendship over deep conversations during their commute.
One winter day, when they were dismissed from school early, the friend group decided to go ice skating at the local rink (and Lin only agreed to come along because Yasuko was going). Yasuko struggled to find her balance on the ice, so naturally she held on to Lin—who glided gracefully on the metal blades of her skates—for dear life. It was only much later, after they'd abandoned the ice in search of something to eat, that someone pointed out that they were still holding hands.
Oooh! Haven't written this ship before, this was a lot of fun!

Lin is a young police officer working in the Republic City Police Department. Her latest operation is to go undercover and investigate the rumors of an underground cactus dust ring led by one of the Triads. This is going to be one of her firsts and she was excited to get involved and prove her worth.
With a new look, haircut, and name, Lin, or rather Meng, did the work to earn her graces in the Triple Threat Triad. She started off as a low ranking member, but hey, a foot in the door was a foot in the door. It was bitter work for her trust to be earned amongst the legacy members of the gang. Some things she expected to be part of initiation, based on rumors and previous intel. Others were new and things she would rather forget.
Lucky for her, Meng’s earth bending prowess and proficiency in metal bending and seismic sense earned her on the fast track to be a valuable member. She was really in.
During one of her days undercover, Meng was doing work for another operation of getting intel on one of the candidates for an upcoming council election, and she was paired up with someone who looked terribly familiar.
Was it? She squinted and tilted her head. Eyes widened in recognition.
It couldn’t be. But it was. The silky raven black hair and crystalline green eyes were a dead ringer.
“Yasuko?” she whispered in near disbelief. Spirits, Lin hadn’t seen her since back in school. She looked great. Really great, actually.
The slight darting and widening of the woman’s eyes at the name confirmed her suspicion.
Before Lin could get another word out, she was immediately shoved into a back alley. A flame dagger to her throat.
Yasuko or Leia, as she went by nowadays, bit back at Meng to keep her mouth shut. Leia grilled her on what kind of business she was on to have known the name Yasuko.
It was then, Lin in the heat of the moment, revealed her identity.
That made Yasuko lower the fire dagger from Lin’s throat to eventually extinguish it. She told Lin that she had to get out while she could; that she should not have gotten herself involved in all this mess.
Well Lin was very much not going to go along with that.
Aside from her being undercover for her job, knowing that someone she cared or cares deeply for is also involved– not a chance was she getting out like this. And Lin confirmed as such.
Yasuko only shook her head, revealing she was under the careful watch of the current leader of the Triple Threats Shoji. To Shoji, Leia was his “precious fire lily” and wouldn’t let her get away so easily.
Lin hated that. She promised her one day that she would be free.
But they had to work together.
Admiring the resilience in Lin’s eyes and diction, Yasuko reluctantly agreed.
And so, with Leia’s more extensive insider knowledge of the Triple Threats and Lin’s work with the police department, a sting operation was planned. To dismantle the drug ring and take down the leader Shoji. Because things never go smoothly or according to plan, an intense shootout ensues. While Shoji was taken down, it was not without sacrifices on both sides.
About a month later, on one of the far off Fire Nation Islands, two women, Li and Kyoko are reading in the paper about the repercussions of taking down the Triple Threat leader back in Republic City.
After reading, Kyoko incinerates the paper and takes Li’s hand in hers. A kiss to the knuckles, they relax on the beach to watch the dolphin sharks play in the waves.
Lin for whatever reason has to baby sit Wu or else deal with Reiko’s wrath. She doesn’t want to deal with a whiny Wu (who does) so she ends up giving in to his demands to go to the spa. Then he decides he’s going to give her a makeover and she is very defensive but gives up after a while… After Lin is all dolled up he demands to go to a very nice restaurant. When they get there she sees ( insert person you ship Lin with ) and realizes it was a set up all along. Wu put her on a blind date. The guy she thought was a fumbling idiot was a mastermind all along and now she’s on the most awkward date of her life while this man is grinning like there’s no tomorrow behind her. Wu stops third wheeling and disappears.
…And operation Beifong was a great success Wu would like to report. The lady was a little less grumpy than usual the next day. According to the tabloids and staff at the four elements she may or may not have made a reservation at midnight after the date he set her on. Ah, all in a day’s work for Wu matchmaker extraordinaire. The only question: who should he set up next ?
Here is a little snippet of some Linsuko shenanigans. Genuinely such a fun crack ship to write. Send me your favorite LOK crackships please.
A gorgeous woman sat herself beside the Chief and smiled.
“I don’t believe we’ve met before. I’m Yasuko Sato” she said with an accent so thick Lin couldn’t understand her at first.
She was painfully out of place here. Her dress was too short, her makeup too heavy, her voice too loud… and yet she was enchanting.
“I’m Lin Beifong,”
Yasuko smiled, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Beifong, how’re you enjoying the night”
“I’ve had better,” Lin replied plainly.
“You know I could make this night more interesting for both of us” she said, gesturing at Lin’s drink, “I have something stronger than that” she continued.
“You realize that I’m the Chief of Police Right ?”
“And you realize that cactus juice is legal ?”
This Sato girl was bold. Her and Lin we’re going to get along just fine.
“How’d you even get that past security ?”
Yasuko laughed as she reached a hand down her bra and produced a flask.
Short and sweet! I’ve never written for Yasuko before so I did my best lmao
I’m glad you enjoyed the playlist!!
Lin growled as she crumpled up and tossed aside the schematics she had been working on for the last six hours.
This was harder than it looked, designing and testing latches for the mental benders body armor. Just twelve hours ago four of her officers went to the intensive care unit with severe burns all over their bodies due to the healers unable to get the damn things off.
Thankfully the healers reported the metal benders would make a full recovery but still, the needed change now fell on Lin’s shoulders to figure out.
“Anything I can help you with?” A soft voice came from the doorway and Lin looked up to see Yasuko in her nightgown peeking into the room.
“No, well maybe. I need to design release latches that healers can access if my officers are downed. But they can’t be so obvious as to create a weak point.” Lin sighed.
The engineer moved to pick up the discarded plans as she entered the room and uncrumpled the page to look over the plans.
“Mmm a bit more complex than it needs to be.” She smiled and moved to sit on Lin’s lap before grabbing the pencil. Lin went to protest but decided against it as she rested her chin on Yasuko shoulder to watch her work. “You want them hidden by the mesh material, but the healers will be able to find them.”
Soon the designs were drawn up to hide some release latches along the silver seems in the uniform so the armor would fairly easily come undone in the event of another emergency like the one today.
“That’s perfect! I’ll have a prototype by the morning.” Lin started to make plans already.
“Oh no you won’t, now that you know it’s going to be okay you’re coming to bed.”
