Maia Landers: Abnegation Born
Her heart retracted as she looked at her family. Dia was sitting like she usually did. Her little ankles crossed, her thin hands linked together. She was blissfully unaware of her choice and the need to choose. Elyse on the other hand was sitting in the next chair over, slouching with a frown etched on her face, she reminded her of a certain brood. But that was okay because the girl wasn’t meant for Abnegation. She was aware of that. She’ll leave because selflessness isn’t her favored virtue and no one will be taken by surprise. They will expect that since she’s never hid her personality like Maia did with her intelligence.
Trisha, a woman she’d grown to appreciate, called her name. It was the name of the family she’d leave behind with the new faction. The rule was faction before blood- she was always a stickler for the rules. She wondered how hard she’d really try to follow the rule as she accepted the knife handed to her. Cutting her palm open she shivered before turning her hand over above the water. She let herself watch the water turn a deeper shade of red for a moment before turning away.
The deed was done. The blood had fallen into the H2O and it couldn’t be taken back. Maia was guiltily sure of her decision. More than once was she questioned if she was a Erudite. She never said yes because there was always her home, her grey faction. Now home didn’t exist, now she could tell them she was an initiate. Scurrying from the center, her face flush, she wanted to risk a glance at her family but she couldn’t get herself to see how they reacted to her choice that they probably weren’t expecting.
