Sorry to be a bother again but I was wondering if you have any tips for drawing clothes and folds and such. I have a super hard time with that. I also wanted to ask how one should go about drawing if one is in a situation where they don't have any pose refs. Like, how should someone draw a pose from their brain? Sorry for polluting your blog with boring asks, you don't have to answer or put it up. I feel like it would ruin your blog. I'm sorry. I want to draw like you too <3

a 3 sec sketch; basically outlines what the pic will look like; sort of lik a gesture drawing!

I usually skip right to drawing the skeletal base drawing, but it helps to understand how to simplify the body parts. This is how I break the body down to make it easier for me to digest and draw.

when you can simplify the body down like this, you can easily deconstruct photos/references! when you have a repertoire of poses in your mind after studying a lot of poses, that kind of stuff become easier to draw from your mind cus you’ve drawn it before. 

disclaimer: “anatomically” correct is really subjective; some artists will bend anatomy, as such, not every human has the same anatomical body proportions, so that’s really up to you to decide. (Ive never done art school so Im not the person to ask about this.) 

I start loose and then slowly tighten the details all around. Work on drawing holistically (keeping in mind your entire picture) rather than zooming in and working on one part to another.

ok, back to my sketch;

since ive already defined the person’s body structure, I skip right to drawing the clothes on  top of them; some ppl will actually draw the body structure neatly before they put clothes on them; it really is up to you!

keep note that this hasn’t been anatomy checked or whatever, just still roughing it out and cleaning it up as I go. 

for clothes fold, i saw this rly cool tip where you imagine shower curtain rings

and sorta draw around the movement of it (ofc this is like.. the wrinkles around the arm/sleeve etc.) AGAIN please use reference of real cothes to get a better feel of how to draw it (:3

andddddd ofc, cus im a wishy washy person, the anatomy changes overtime the more details I add in, so it’s……. iunno. yeah. it’s a nightmare to horizontal flip it, but it does help you catch a lot of things that are wrong (like I know the head tilt is gonna be a problem here lol.)

and well. it’ll be touched up a lot more, sketched better/cleaned up; so yeah. i’m at the brink of passing out rn, but this is just the base drawing process !! I guess (?)

Dear Lunch: Your Hataraku Saibou drawings are adorable! I think you are a very amazing artist, and your art skills are so wonderful! I like the pictures you drew of White x Red and the AUs. I have a question: what software do you use to draw? Also, I am an artist who's a very beginner. Do you have any tips on how to draw better?

As for software, I used to use SAI but migrated to Clip Studio Paint; there really isn’t much of a difference in terms of drawing between the two programs, just that CSP offers a lot more options.

I think it’s more of the art skill than tools, though tools definitely help.

Pros of CSP: there are downloadable materials available; the knife was free, the hat I downloaded a 3d model for 10USD (and i dont even use it half the time bc im lazy aksjhkf)

lotsa lotsa different brushes… nice… 

Also for a beginning artist; reference pictures constantly! be it photography or even other artists’ pictures (just don’t pose them publicly since it’s for practice.) It’s all about figuring out how you want to draw and then going for it.

For example, if I see an artist with a style I really like, I’ll study it and try to recreate the same style. I’m not attempting to copy it so that it looks like a perfect copy, but just enough so that I’ve figured out their techniques? (Sorry it’s really vague.)

tldr: reference reference reference. 

In my harddrive i have folders with lots of artists and their artwork sorted in there, periodically I’d study them and try to incorporate what ive learned. Something like a collage of art styles.

Lotsa people, when they start drawing, worry about creating a distinctive style, but I say, to heck with that mentality!!! I like being able to draw anything I want, however I want, in whatever style I want. Some days I wanna draw cute floffy shit, other days I wanna get gritty and serious; don’t limit yourself by thinking you have to be consistent. 

Let your art grow, try different things!!! Subconsciously, you’ll fall back on comfort zones on how to draw this or that, and that’s what defines your style. Honestly, I have no idea if I have a distinctive style or not, but I’ll let people be the one to say that. /shrugs shrugs. I’ll just continue drawing what I want. 

The rules of thumbs (??) I follow when drawing:

1. use references!!!!!! ( i should use the hat 3d model more for a more anatomically correct hat…)

2. Draw something different all the time. You can draw busts/headshots but if you don’t stretch, you won’t be flexible.

*this is more of a personal challenge since I rather focus on drawing content (story telling, hc, evoking audience feelings) than technicality (perspective, composition, colors.)

This isn’t to shame any artist who only default to drawing headshots/busts. There are artists out there who like to draw those things, and that’s ok! !! ! !! (I just observe the fact that after looking at their entire gallery, their weak point is waist-down anatomy. It’s like skipping leg day when ur working out I guess…)

How do you draw anatomy so well? Your art is so pretty! WAIT! IS THAT! RBC AND WBC? UP THERE^^^ On the questions box!!

Hi there! Ive been drawing for like… 14 years and anatomy is still hard to figure out. There isn’t an easy answer aside from practicing; but my suggestion is to draw using references. (Be it real life photos, or fanart from artists you like!) 

Find tutorials of the styles you wanna draw in. (Eastern vs western cartoony style.) 

Use reference photos when you need ‘im; (ngl, I constantly use refs for hands.) 

If you’re serious about it, buy a figurine just for drawing poses lol. (Body-kun and body-chan, i have body-kun, and he’s so useful. I use him for the poses I can’t easily look up.)
