OKAY SO. in a very realistic sense where the love is genuine and not just something he's created in his mind and projected on the person of interest, adam is very weak before the person he loves. he's still capable of being cruel, hellishly so, but in a sense they disarm him. he will be rational before he will be cruel. he will be tender before he will be cruel. this is very easily the biggest chink in his emotional armor.
HOWEVER in another sense entirely, when the love is projected (for example, when he's pushing his love on a person who doesn't want it -- point in case julie sandgren) he will give the illusion that he is weak before them. he will willingly come undone for them if only to show them that he is not entirely cruel, that he is capable of love in order to create a false sense of security. this is why often times he will be cruel and demanding at one point but apologetic and soft the next. he will hurt you but then treat your wounds. he will become cross with you one moment but next be trying to reassure you with kind words. he will spurn you, but in the blink of an eye be ready to protect you, save you.
he's extremely back and forth with his displays of affection vs his displays of violence. he's unreliable, irrational, impulsive, enjoys setting people up only because he knows that he can knock them down.
