@maplejingle requested Odd/Sissi - meeting the parents, so here we go
//
The first thing Sissi notices is that Odd is wearing the ugliest bowtie she has ever seen, the second thing being just how badly it clashes with his shirt. If she didn’t know any better she would almost think he’s doing this on purpose, just to wind her up, but there’s something almost nervous about the grin stretching over his face.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” she says for the hundredth time, tugging down her dress and wringing her hands. “I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
Odd grins, bouncing from foot to foot. “Darling, no one has failed to succumb to the Della Robbia charm. This will be a night you’ll never forget.”
Sissi mumbles something sarcastic under her breath and Odd does a great job of pretending not to hear her. Instead he loops his arm into hers, spins her around so they’re face to face, and winks.
“I just want to get things right. It’ll be fine, just great, you’ll see!”
He lightly grasps her shoulders, pulls her down towards him to press the lightest kiss against her lips, then releases her again and pushes open the door to the principal’s office.
“Good evening, Sir!”
Sissi steps into the doorway beside him.
“Daddy, this is my boyfriend… Odd.”
Mr Delmas blinks at them both behind his glasses. He stands up, removes his glasses, wipes them on his shirt and puts them on again.
Odd skips on the balls of his feet then strides over to the desk and thrusts out a hand.
“Allow me to formally introduce myself, Sir.”
“Della Robbia… you have been a student at this school for three years now. I know you well.” Mr Delmas’ jaw is slightly slack, but he composes himself enough to remember his manners, takes Odd’s hand and shakes it.
“I know, Sir, but I just wanted to get off on the right foot.”
“You were here earlier today. I gave you weekend detention for kicking a football through the library window. From inside the library.”
Odd grins and at least has the decency to look bashful. “Admittedly, not one of my finer moments. Still! I hope to make your daughter very happy.”
Sissi is blushing furiously, alternately swinging her arms at her sides and tapping her hands on her hips.
Mr Delmas speaks slowly, as though registering something for the first time. “And you’re… dating… my daughter?”
“Yes, Sir!” and “That’s right, Daddy,” come in unison.
The principal’s jaw gapes a little. He rubs his temple, opens his mouth to say something, closes it again.
“I suppose… if it makes you happy, Elisabeth…”
He heaves a long sigh and slumps back into his chair. Sissi takes hold of Odd’s arm and pulls him back towards the doorway, mouthing apologies to her father over her boyfriend’s head. They are almost through the door when Delmas recovers his wits and calls past their retreating backs-
“Della Robbia, you still have to go to detention tomorrow.”
maplejingle replied to your photoset:I did the handwriting meme (+1 extra)
you have that kinda neat-messy handwriting i aspire to wtf
i used to have like copperplate cursive but i’ve kinda lost it :/
my writing tends to be more legible when i’m paying attention to it but otherwise you get things like the dot on an i becoming an arc into the next letter, or ‘ng’ looking like ‘ŋ’ (or even a dotless j)
maplejingle replied to your post:heads up y’all: i’m offline starting tomorrow and...
I don’t know what a d of e silver is but I do know that tumblr will surely miss your educational british ramblings while you are gone </3
duke of edinburgh silver award qualifying expedition = 3 days walking like 20km per day with a 50L rucksack of kit in the pouring rain and friends who don’t appreciate my singing, cooking meals on a tiny portable gas stove, camping in the middle of nowhere, and frantically trying to make it to checkpoints on time so we’re not failed
maplejingle mentioned you in a post:coto524 i actually feel bad because what ended up...
coto524 i actually feel bad…
:( that sucks, but don’t worry too bad abt it. you didn’t intend to be rude and you’re prolly not gonna see him again.
and to be fair if he took photos of you sleeping without your consent and kept on following you around for no reason i think you had every right to be blunt abt it
maplejingle update your /etc page the links are out of date and your redirect at @vertsmonts doesn't even say maplejingle it leads to some random psn's blog
omfg enzo I THOUGHT THE UK WAS COLD TOO THOUGH AND HAD SNOW EVEN IF NOT A LOT OF IT. we almost had a green christmas one year and it was the weirdest thing because the weather kept staying in the upper 20s to the 30s (basically -3 to 2ish C which is really warm for our winters) and any snow that we had wouldn't stick, but then it snowed the day right before christmas thank god! snow in may though...ahhaha, that's actually really rare for us too.
JUST BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE SAME LATITUDE AS WINNIPEG DOESN'T MEAN WE ARE COLD although a great deal of that is due to the gulf stream and weather systems from southern europe, so we are kind of cheating SHHHHH
britain's not normally extremely cold or hot, it's just kind of grey and wet. i think that as a rough rule of thumb an average temperature in autumn and spring is 10-15 C (50-60 F). it's been said you could wear the same outfit the whole year round and that's p much true. although in the summer it breaks 30 C (~85 F) quite regularly and in the winter i've known it go down to -15 C (5 F) but that was like that super freaky winter from 2010 which was really weird, seriously the snow was horrendous.
ooh, that is an unusually british thing - it has started snowing every year - or every other year, somewhere in between - in the winter and we really should be better prepared for it, but a few cm of snow can bring the country to a standstill? WE ARE NOT THE SNOWPEOPLE OF VERMONT. but some parts of the UK get it worse than others; in brighton i haven't known it above 20 cm tops whereas my friends back in wales sometimes get massive fucking drifts??? that might be the geography though, the snow probably collects more in the valleys than on flat land
ALSO IF/WHEN YOU COME TO THE UK FOR UNI BE PREPARED TO USE CELSIUS it's one of the places where we have properly metricated, and some cookbooks and newspapers provide it alongside celsius but most people couldn't do the conversion on-the-spot so you'd have to use your phone the whole time idkidkidk.
'30's hot, 20's nice, 10 is cold and zero's ice' that is a rough guide super handy
also on the news they talk about mm for measuring rain, idk if that happens in america because inches seems a weird thing to measure rain in but okay
