Mark Bustos - New York hair stylist gives homeless people haircuts on his day off in an effort to give back to society.
Mark Bustos, a resident hairstylist at Three Squares Studio in New York City – who’s personal motto is "Be Awesome to Somebody" – spends his Sundays giving hair cuts to those who can't afford it. “There is so much negativity in this world today, and I just simply wanted to bring some positive energy and hope into this world.”
Mark has been offering free haircuts to the poor since a May 2012 trip to his family’s native Philippines, where he temporarily rented a barber's chair to offer his services to underprivileged kids. "This day started the movement."
He says he intentionally cuts hair right there on the street in hopes that others can find inspiration in the good deed, and be kind to those less unfortunate as well. "Even a simple smile can go a long way"
Although he says he wishes appearances weren't so vital, he notes that people are treated better when their hair is styled neatly. “I do believe people with a proper, professional haircut receive more respect than those who do not have a proper haircut,” Mark said. “Having a proper haircut also gives the recipient much more confidence.”
