Mass Effect: Evolution really makes clear just how mirrored Shep's and the Illusive Man's arcs are:

The monolith activating when Ben is curious about it. (The beacon activating when Kaidan [for my Shep] is curious about it.)

Jack trying to pull him away and getting indirectly hit with it. (Shepard pushing Kaidan out of the way and getting directly hit with it.)

Visions of death and destruction. (Visions of death and destruction.)

He's isolated as who would believe all that? (Surrounded by people who don't believe it. Sidelined by the Alliance *and* the Council.)

Devotes everything to stopping the Reapers. (Devotes everything to stopping the Reapers.)

Would have been interesting if a properly Renegade Shep could have agreed with him more during ME3, if only not being indoctrinated is what stops Shepard from fully siding with him.

Felt like sharing a lil WIP today

With the end of term fastly approaching, chances are, I will be posting less stuff, but here is a rough sketch for some character design stuff I'm doing. Since that one comic turned into a pretty long monstrosity that lives in my brain rent free, I wanted to do studies for some characters that are going to be featured, both my OCs and canon characters we know so little about they might as well be.

So, here, a messy thing with Lt. Abrudas, whom I'm borrowing for a role of Tiri's mum. I've been calling her Namira, since we weren't really given a name for her. I also did some serious redesign there, haha

Also, tiny Lantiria inside the collar, anyone?

lies down. this canvas has existed since june of 2021. art block my beloathed.

so anyway i have this fun and completely irrelevant just for flavor detail headcanon that desolas is skewbald, and wanted to draw it out, so here it is. it’s a result of eezo exposure, same as how his baby brother is short as hell and how both of them display albinism when i have their father as a dark brown and thus it’s damn near impossible to have two albino sons. one of the mutations they both ended up getting (by random chance, they’re 19 years apart) was altering their pigmentation genes so instead of taking after dad like they were supposed to, they came out looking like mom, who was albino. the difference is that where saren’s albinism ended up complete, with des the mutation didn’t fully take, so he ended up with a big patch running from about the bottom of his keel down to his mid-thighs that’s dark brown and tan. the doctors initially thought he’d absorbed a twin in the womb and was just a particularly dramatic case of it (which, to be fair, would be on-brand, lbh), until other issues arose and they figured out he’d been exposed to eezo. bioware didn’t establish literally anything further than “causes genetic mutations and birth defects” about eezo exposure so it’s a blank check and i can do what i want

i also just think it’s fun to give the aliens different patterns and stuff, you’ve all seen my salarian designs right this is just what i do. yes his shirt says “the spirits won’t let me die” this bad boy can fit so much major depressive disorder in him

She was a very brusque old pen, sharp and clipped and regulation-perfect from the square of her shoulders to the shine of her shoes. Even though the call was audio-only, Desolas somehow got the sense she knew he was still shirtless, still lying in an unmade bed, still hadn’t even washed the sleep from his eyes, and had a five-page report of a reprimand with sources cited on the tip of her tongue. He ran his claws between the blades of his crest in a vain attempt to neaten the snarled overgrowth, just to be safe.

i told myself i was going to do nanowrimo to write the evolution rewrite but then real life was like “guess again, bitch” so that didn’t happen BUT i do have the characters actually like, created so there’s more named characters with personalities and impact on the plot and that counts for something i think

this is desolas’s commanding officer, general praesagius, a tough old battleaxe who doesn’t suffer fools gladly. she’s a major general (2 stars), whereas des is a brigadier general (1 star, fairly recently promoted too). she’s greatly respected and a little bit feared by most of the rest of the military, and her calling desolas to tell him about the artifact a research team found on shanxi found kicks off the rest of the plot.
