Mobile website builder: our retrospective
Last 3 months were especially successful for Re-Mondes and our partners. Two plain reasons: - within that time we've finished and launched quite a few cool projects, and - we've made a step forward in the market of technology-backed start-ups with a professional approach we tailored internally. So few words about one of the projects launched - Moably v1.0. It is a free mobile website builder with a complimentary hosting option. Builder is designed for small and medium business owners as well as users who just need flexibility for mobile screen dimensions.
Key features:
5 quick steps to create your mobile website: from meta tags and keywords to adding features and customising themes
2 options to launch the site: using complimentary hosting on Moably, or downloading full code of website and hosting it wherever user deems appropriate
full frame of colour differentiation: buttons, backgrounds, fonts, etc.
RSS feed support with frequent updates to downloadable versions of mobile website
Maps, social networks, support of any other link
Drag-n-drop menu for fun and additional usability
Technologies: Rails 3, jQuery, MySQL, Git Hosting: Amazon EC2 Production flow: Wireframes -> Designs -> RoR development -> Support Post-production maintenance and metrics measurement: NewRelic, Hoptoad Cool things to share:
Re-Mondes has launched MVP with unit tests for critical functionality only (like payments gateway). Motto is to deliver consistent products within business-wise time-frames (i.e. ASAP) and terms (version 1 should be tried out on a market and then - upgraded according to the real users feedback).
To deliver product's sustainability and get all needed metrics, first 200 users were using application by invites only. Once sure in huge reserves of capacities, free sign-up option was deployed.
While traffic is generated by free options, there are several premium options, e.g. managing unlimited amount of websites under 1 single account, or additional custom premium features included into user's mobile website.
