“Well.. that’s not entirely true..” Robert began, a hand rubbing softly his cheek as he recalled the old times, when he used to keep his hair long, and proceeded to explain as he stepped further into the room. “Boys can have long hair too, it’s just not as common to see long-haired boys as it is seeing long-haired girls.”
“Please, don’t be rough on your Granny. I’m sure she doesn’t mean evil with any of that.” Which would be understandable to anyone who had at least an idea of how growing up in Victorian England. Most Victorians had a limited knowledge on sexuality in general. It was no surprise that some of them would treat anything that fell ‘outside of the norm’ as something temporary and basically nothing but a phase a person could come out of, or plain out as something ‘disgusting’ in some cases that they could ignore until it was gone. Of course he wasn’t expecting Joseph to understand all that completely out of nowhere. Not even Robert himself had been able to understand everything about those rough views people had back in the day.
And here’s where Speedwagon found himself dealing with a huge dilemma: He himself had been able to sport a long mane back in the past for who knows how many years in a time when men were required to be the most ‘masculine’ possible, and those who dared to go against that were frowned upon at. He really didn’t see a reason why his nephew couldn’t dress the way he wanted to or cut his hair as short as he wanted it to be and, as such, wanted to support him but, at the same time, he didn’t feel like he had the right to go against Erina’s wishes, whatever these were. She was little Jojo’s ‘remaining’ blood relative, after all, and the main person in charge of his well-being, the one who, before the law, had all the right to decide what was best for her grandson, not to mention the fact that Robert and her where technically family as well. The man gave a faint sigh at that train of thoughts. He was almost completely sure he was going to get into trouble later with Erina for this…
“You’re one handsome little man!” A warm and genuine smile spread across his lips as he approached the child. “But your hair looks a little uneven. Would you like me to help you fix it a bit?” A hand was extended in a request for Joseph to hand him the scissors so he could try to even out his hair if only a little.
