“Oye, why are you talking like we’re going to die?”
The situation was much more dire than Dani made it seem, sure. Hundreds of men enclosing on them and she was armed with only a pistol. The odds weren’t looking fantastic but Dani had never been one to admit defeat so early. Hell, she suspected that even with her back against the wall and a gun between her eyes she’d probably be spitting in the face of her killer. “I’ve been in worse spots, amiga, we can do this.”
It happens so fast. Ellie is recruited as a member on Project Zero Dawn, working closely with Tanaka Naoto on DEMETER in recreation of Earth’s floral biosphere and Charles Ronson on ARTEMIS to reintroduce plant species and life. Electing to be sealed in GAIA prime with the Alphas and Dr. Sobeck seems like the obvious choice. Though, only when she’s inside does she realize an alternative project. Cryo-chambers crafted for the sole purpose of preservation until the day arrives when GAIA will awaken them to lead the future into a new world scares Ellie more than she’s willing to admit.
Elizabet’s sacrifice leaves an air of grief hanging over them. Who is going to lead them? Give them hope when all else collapses around them? No one left to field Ted Faro’s frantic contacts. They all agreed his behavior seems... unhinged. They decide to have one more meeting before descending to the chambers and Ellie agrees to meet them there. After all, she isn’t an Alpha and she knows they’ll join her and a few others soon.
Fingers trace over her name labeled on the glass. The idea of being trapped inside the pod sends a chill through her spine as she prepares herself for the long sleep. It isn’t until she’s inside that Ellie hears the alarms, knows something’s wrong with GAIA Prime’s control chamber with the Alphas inside. Banging on the glass, there’s nothing Ellie can do, trapped inside as the process begins and her vision fades.
She doesn’t know how long she’s been asleep, though, a plan is in place. A set number of centuries and then they’ll emerge into a new Earth. The hiss of the chamber opening, cold air meets warmer air and steam forms before her hand thrusts out and slams against the side. Ellie gasps, trying to breathe on her own for the first time in ages. Blue eyes scan frantically for someone, anyone who may have woken before her. Vision blurs, learning all over again how to focus. Memories are there, but as if they’re in the distance, too far off for her to reach just yet. Only when the dark outline of a person appears does Ellie turn to stare at @norasavior .
❝ L... Liz? ❞ It’s the only sound she’s able to force out of her throat before collapsing to the ground.
