“So, are you ready for this?”

“Ready!”

Jin scooted closer to Logan atop the layers of blankets spread out on the floor, pizza box open wide before them as she pressed play on her phone screen to begin casting The Sandlot on the tv screen. He’d already changed into a pair of shorts to get some relief from the warm temperature in the apartment, much to Jin’s amusement.

They watched in silence for the first half of the movie, Jin happily eating pizza while Logan watched the screen with rapt attention as the story unfolded. He smiled and chuckled as each scene played out, eyeing Jin with an appreciative smile during the campout scene with the s’mores. She’d just gathered their “stolen” ingredients and a tea light candle, just as Squints began telling a story.

Logan’s attention switched between the screen and watching Jin arrange things on the pizza box lid with care. She made a small pile of graham cracker squares and broke off pieces of chocolate, before stabbing a marshmallow with a small bamboo skewer. She held it over the small flame from the tea light, turning the marshmallow to toast it evenly until the surface bubbled and turned gold.

Just as it started to fall from the skewer, she pressed the marshmallow into the chocolate and topped it with another graham cracker. She handed it to Logan with a tiny smile on her lips, and he laid a gentle kiss against her temple as he took the treat from her. She began toasting another marshmallow for herself as he bit into the layer of crunchy graham, melting chocolate, and gooey sugar. A pleasant sigh escaped from him as he chewed, relishing in the textures and flavors. “You were right, these are better than the Pop Tart version,” he murmured, just before taking another bite.

“Told you,” Jin replied, nudging him gently with her shoulder.

They ate their dessert in comfortable silence again, their attention on the movie, until Jin made seconds. The s’mores were messier to assemble, and, distracted by the movie, she held her marshmallow over the flame longer than intended. She blew out the flame before trying to catch the melting sugar just as it slipped off the skewer with the cracker and chocolate layer in her hand.

She assembled the sweet sandwich carefully, trying to contain the mess, and Logan looked on at her with adoration and amusement. “Wha?” She asked quietly, mouth full of s’more.

“Ya got a little something there,” he laughed softly, pointing to the corner of his mouth.

Jin flicked the tip of her tongue to the corner of her mouth, mirroring the spot Logan had indicated. “Did I get it?”

Logan set down the remaining half of his s’more on the pizza box and leaned closer to Jin. “Here, I got you.” His voice was low, breath sugar-laced, as his lips moved closer to hers. His tongue swiped gently at the corner of her mouth to catch the errant swipe of chocolate before parting his lips to kiss her.

Jin set what was left of her s’more down on the box, her hands flying up to cup the sides of Logan’s face, and swept her leg out from under her to slide the pizza box aside.

They’d finish watching the rest of the movie another day; Logan was intent on getting her to see his own special brand of fireworks.

Sam: Yes, of course. People there love me, I'm very popular.

Caine: Let me rephrase that: Do you really think it's a good idea to bring ME back to town?

Sam: Probably not, to be honest.
