Keeso asked me to go out to pee for the first time!!!!
He asked me to go earlier by sitting in front of the door (he has done this maybe three times since he's lived with me, believe it or not...) but it's storming and neither of us really wanted to go outside once we had the door open and realized there was more water than air out there. So I closed the door and regretfully popped a belly band on him, planning on trying again in another 30 minutes or so when the rain had lightened a little.
I offered him dinner and after eating, and he wound up at the door again, sitting and looking at me. I opened the door to see if he needed to go badly enough to brave the rain. Sure enough, we both wound up getting soaked and he emptied his bladder at the first opportunity!
I'm trying not to get my hopes up that this becomes a regular thing for him. I'm proud of him tonight, though!
The more I think of Keeso as a "primitive"/basal/natural-type dog, the more understanding and patient I am able to be with him. I wish I could have been in this mindset earlier in our relationship, but I'm glad I've found it now, because I think it will make me a better handler of dogs of all types.
