Tbh suo is so overrated like he barely has good writing or depth

He is just mysterious fighter and all he does is protecting nirei that's it

(I didn't expect to write something so long wtf)

To be fair, I think Suo is being kept that way because the author either has something major brewing for his character or he simply wants to keep us on our toes lol. Either way, I think it's interesting—to have a character we can theorize about, with any interpretation being possible at the moment.

I do agree that he doesn't have as much depth at the moment. All we know is that he's an easygoing guy who can show a blunt and ruthless side sometimes. (This scene for example).

And a few other tidbits that don't really contribute much into definitively knowing the core of his character.

Although, I do like to think that his protectiveness of Nirei and his willingness to teach him basic self-defense has to do with Suo seeing his younger (helpless) self in Nirei. Perhaps he was trained down to the bone by his 'master' in order to be as good as he is now (Might also explain the eyepatch?) Maybe he used to be exactly like Nirei, but he managed to grow out of it through sheer willpower and discipline.

Who knows? Suo might not be some prodigy that we were all led to think.

There's a lot to dissect about him—surprisingly—which is why I'm not surprised that a lot of people like him.

His choice of martial arts alone is intriguing—to me at least. Everyone else uses pretty 'hard' moves and styles, opting for harsh striking and overpowering the opponent with brute strength. However, Suo predominantly uses Aikido (he uses a mix of different MAs, but most of his moves are Aikido based at least). Aikido is 'softer' than what the other characters do. He simply redirects and uses his opponents' strength on themselves.

It could potentially point to something in his psyche.

Apart from that, he's pretty easy to like. I wouldn't say he's overrated. Based on what I see on Tumblr, Umemiya and Kaji receive as much attention as he does, if not, even more. Probably Togame too.

Fairly rated, I would say. Not the best character of the series, but he's definitely likable.
