There’s screenshots of an art book going around in which a dark-skinned character is shown. Her name is Concrete, and she “can’t read :(” and a number of people have pointed out that she really heavily resembles insensitive racial caricatures of black people.

Which, yeah, she does.

But her skin is probably meant to be grey, so skin tone isn’t the issue--and one anon suggested that she might’ve been part of a game the SU staff play where someone designs a character and everyone picks random goofy traits to give them, and that the “can’t read :(” trait was just an unfortunate coincidence.

Which sounds more plausible to me than NO ONE on staff realizing that maybe Concrete was kind of...uncomfortable.

In the end, I highly doubt anyone on SU staff meant for Concrete to be racist, and I’m waiting on an official statement from them to hopefully clear things up. The fact remains, though, that Concrete is...uncomfortable.
