House Schmidt Arcades in German St Blasien. In 1768 the St Blasien monastery burnt down. With the stones of the burnt down baroque church, which was completely destroyed prince Abbott Gerbert built a hospital opposite side of river Alb. In the post-convent period the hospital became a private property and business premises were added. In 1905/1906 the printer and bookseller Johann Weissenberger built a multi-storey house with rich woodwork to east of the hospital. It was Grand Duke Friedrich who recommended that the St Blasien should build all the houses in the refined Swiss style. This resulted in numerous houses with woodwork with bay windows and turrets (small towers) were built. The most beautiful of the houses of this type still preserved is the Schmidt Arcades house today (in the photo)....#Germany #stblasien #schmidtarcades # (at Sankt Blasien) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA7P6LLMxOS/?igshid=xh54o6soene5
