"Kayn.... I have been expecting you." he says -seductively-, promptly before he trips on his own feet and lands on the floor face first.

he’d only been home for about five minutes,  and in their room for little beyond one.

it’s a  tragedy,  really;  when kayn can barely move a step forward before shieda announces his presence,  then somehow,  suddenly manages to trip over himself and smack into the wooden floor beneath them.

————  oh.

what’s even more of a tragedy is the fact that accidents like these  (for either of them,  not just shieda)  were  alarmingly  common. how two prodigal students could ever hinder themselves more than anything or anyone else was  …  puzzling,  to say the least.

well,  at least it wasn’t the headboard again.

❛  shi,  i’m shocked  …  ❜  kayn pauses for effect,  but his steadily forming grin most likely gives him away long before his following words do. he’s already  obnoxiously  proud of this one,  and he has yet to even finish.

ah,  and how instantaneously he grins at the sound of that little laugh. he feigns defeat in the moments before he spins around,  still beaming,  still openly and unashamedly amused.

❛  now,  who are you calling a kid? hm,  even so  —— ❜  kayn chuckles,  a beat in between his laugh and the shifts forward that follow until he’s looming over shieda;  closing in,  closer,  closer and then  …

a kiss,  short and sweet,  pressed to the center of his forehead. it should come as no surprise to either of them that he smirks immediately after.

                He was not lost, it was more so his soul that was lost and wandering this place, looking for their home, their place in the cosmos. She could feel it crying out to her, the same way she could feel the grove mourn and their weeping willow branches and ivy curling towards those who came to her. As the stardust and blood in her body beckons, she feels herself turn towards him in the same way that she and the grove would welcome the lost and in pain. 

                A lifeforce festers within him, apart of him, but it was like a disease that consumed not only the body but the psyche and the heart. Soraka knew of this lifeforce as her divine right and with her age extending to the very beginning of space and time, but she had not come face to face with it in quite some time. This lurking beast that waited in the boy’s shadow, in his own body, was one that beckoned forth death, that desperately craved for it. It made the power of the stars in his body burn underneath her skin. 

                Both of her hands clasp her staff as she fully turns to him, planting its base upon the earth. “Do you seek me, young one?”

           Cain peers up from the small skinning knife he was sharpening towards the kid. Why was a teenager walking around with a massive weapon?

he needn’t tell him that he anticipated his descent from a mile away.

it’s intentional,  after all. if either of them truly sought to catch the other off-guard as much as they could,  they wouldn’t grin the entire way through,  or snicker while they wait for their opportunity to strike. but it’s a welcome “surprise,”  even if shieda was always so blatantly transparent around him.

not that kayn minds.

❛  have you  lost something up there?  ❜  he jests,  and rolls his eyes just in time for shieda’s ever so nonchalant reply. well,  now that you mention it …

he is still so unfamiliar with this affection. on occasion,  he can still feel his breath hitch the moments before their eyes close and lips meet,  until every last one of his doubts are soothed by a soft patience only he could ever show him.

and as always,  when they part,  he can count on that damn smile.
