Rewatching dressrosa (comfort arc) and I forgot how fucking creepy doflamingo is. Not only the character design, but the voice and the mannerisms all combine to make him so vastly unsettling.
Like with his devil fruit power they could’ve gone with the obvious spider motif for his design, but instead he’s ostentatiously dressed and his motif is a flamingo (an arguably not scary animal)??? And we never see his eyes, so he’s always guarded/unreadable to viewers and to ppl in-universe.
And his voice has this vocal fry that just itches my brain idk how to describe it. Obviously the laugh, but also the way he emphasizes words and draws out pauses just makes him beyond disturbing.
And then on top of that his mind/personality?? He’s so skilled at manipulating people (literally and emotionally/mentally) and twisting ppls emotions to serve him. Gaslights like a pro (“I could have reigned over you all with terror from the start” & “it’s all his fault you all have to play such a bloody game today”) and manages to get ppl who want to kill him with their whole hearts to go after his enemies for him.
I honestly could write a paper on the character design/emotional landscape of doffy because he’s just so damn interesting.
