inspired by the Gameboy Color Legend of Zelda games (Link's Adventure and Oracle of Ages/Seasons)

i'm in early stages yet but i'm having a lot of fun with this style of pixel art, and going

ever so slightly Mad

trying to decide on a colour palette that is sufficiently retro AND useful AND mathematically interesting.

there's more words about this as i've been working on it on my cohost page because for some reason posting there feels easier right now. but i shall endeavor to keep updated on here too :V

Oh hey! I found an old world generation prototype I made in game maker studio back in 2019 or so. Didn't expect to have an operational version of this.

This one is a hybrid of cellular automaton and minecraft-style temperature/humidity biome mapping. As you move, each previous area is forgotten, and new areas are generated based on what's nearby.

The four circles on the side are different kinds of minimaps: showing the actual biomes, the temperature and humidity, and then the potential rate of change of those values.

I've been thinking about reusing this tileset or even remaking this idea now that I have more experience and a more comfortable engine to work with.
