Notes:
[1:40] Not going to look too deep into it, but the later mentioned Michaels does custom framing at $50+: https://www.michaelscustomframing.com/shop-products/custom-frames/photo-and-art-prints/?lang=en_US&fromPage=BROWSE_FRAME&prefn1=parentCollections&prefv1=Aaron%20Brothers%20Essentials

[6:05]
[9:32] https://jjmalibu.com/: “Sexy gay clothing and Toys” so uhhh… probably Not Safe For Work
[14:23] Band names that unintentionally reference other things: For Your Health (band) and Dr. Steve Brule -- For Your Health
[19:55] I swear that was unintentional, come back after episode 15 is out.
[21:05] If you haven’t listened to our episode on Scrambles by Bomb the Music Industry!, do check it out: https://anchor.fm/sussedpod/episodes/EPISODE-10--Scrambles-by-Bomb-the-Music-Industry-e1agtgg
and check out the album: https://quoteunquoterecords.com/qur022.htm
[25:51] https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/g:emo/exc:live,archival/ for the Emo chart. It has changed from 2-ish years ago, but even more so in The Brave Little Abacus’ favor. I think American Football (LP1) was #1 at the time.
[28:57] Great video pairing the Malcolm in the Middle scenes with the samples on Just Got Back: The Brave Little Malcolm in the Middle
[32:25] For Frankie Muniz’s clarification: https://youtu.be/j38OAU-FANE , the full episode: Frankie Muniz - Steve-O's Wild Ride! Ep #85
[38:38] The Adam Demirjian interview that I reference: Adam Demirjian Feelings Club Interview
[42:12] They Might Be Giants - Boss of Me , or the Malcolm in the Middle opening
[42:33] They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople) (Official Music Video)
[44:08] The Buffalo full song, check the Mediafire link for a full download of the Brave Little Abacus ¿Demo?
[51:41] El Capitano (different mix), the original mix is on the BLA Demo. Find the Matt Aspinwall / BLA split above at the Bandcamp link.
[56:51] Zach Hill drumming that Adam would have been imitating at the time: HELLA「Biblical Violence. Also check out his rehearsal footage for Death Grips: Death Grips Zach Hill Rehearsal footage
[58:35] Maybe it’s not coincidental, and this recommendation was a catalyst, but this is me confirming we have talked about Fall Out Boy in an episode because it’s the second time it’s been mentioned.
[1:06:51] If you want to hear I See It Too, wait until the end for a surprise.
[1:07:11] The more full version of Map of the Stars with the the song that bleeds into it: "but I won't always be on the receiving end!"/a map of the stars. Check the Mediafire link, or listen on streaming for the rest of Masked Dancers: Concern in So Many Things You Forgot Where you Are
[1:09:57] Television - Marquee Moon
[1:17:53] Listen to Interrobang: https://interrobangmusic.bandcamp.com/ , or find out what it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrobang (‽)
[1:19:42] Didn’t really fact check this before recording this episode, so I could be talking out of my ass, but I think it’s the second picture on this post
I did find the release show flier/event on Last.FM , though
[1:22:20] Here’s the interview that I’m referring to, and the main one that I reference for anything having to do with the album: The E Word Podcast 52 - Adam Demirjian of Brave Little Abacus. Shouts out to the E-Word Podcast, I miss you so much.
[1:31:46] Two kinds of microtonal guitars, the one that Manny and I are referring to is the second kind seen in this video: Microtonal Guitar (Fixed Fret) - Tolgahan Çoğulu
[1:34:07] There are a lot of resources to explain the physics and how to use a theremin out there, but here’s a video of it being played by the person who invented it for reference: https://youtu.be/w5qf9O6c20o
[1:40:08] I don’t think I’ve actually listened to Thank You Scientist, but here’s their Audiotree performance for reference. https://youtu.be/nr1afU-Z4r4 (I see what Manny’s talking about, now)
[1:43:22] DAW = Digital Audio Workspace, basically how you record and edit audio on the computer. BLA used Cubase: https://www.steinberg.net/cubase/
[1:45:59] The original Untitled is on the Matt Aspinwall / Brave Little Abacus EP (God, I love this song, lol)
[1:52:14] The Fox and the Hound (1981) - Best of Friends
[1:55:40] I didn’t like my roommates *except for one, love you Davie-poo
[2:01:12] Here are the patch notes for Life of Pablo from XXL Magazine: https://www.xxlmag.com/kanye-west-the-life-of-pablo-changes/
[2:03:04] For context, I believe this was the day after the first version of the album came out?
[2:05:30] Way before now, if you will.
[2:10:13] The Dillinger Escape Plan (are definitely mathcore): Their First Album. For the point that I think Adam was trying to make in the interview I got this sentiment from, you probably need to see the Dillinger Escape Plan live: https://youtu.be/r-lxwlgyhhA (they go hard)
[2:19:30] Found a Bomb the Music Industry! Poster with BLA on the bill:
[2:26:20] Definitely a planned last show:
[2:28:32] The Brave Little Abacus - Last Show @ The Vic Geary Center (Don’t tell the others, I’ll probably make us watch this for an episode, lol)
[2:30:29] I swear that’s Adam on drums:
[2:34:47] Interview where he mentions that he still likes the music: AIMS Chats With... Adam Demirjian
[2:36:20] Interview mentioned here: i might go to the beach #124 - adam demirjian (brave little abacus/me in capris), possibly the first one done with Adam. RIP Nick Jackson, host of this podcast.
[2:37:53] Seamus, the keeper of the original BLA uploads: https://www.youtube.com/user/habbaoot , their second channel has more music rips, but what’s not to love about the soda reviews?
[2:39:12] https://meincapris.bandcamp.com/ GO LISTEN, NOW
[2:40:47] https://zachonett.bandcamp.com/ NOW. GO LISTEN, ALSO.
[2:41:29] https://youtu.be/c7s8bcZLwR4 PURPLE RAIN, PURPLE RAIN
[2:45:39] I Might Go To The Beach interview being referenced here, mainly towards the end.
[2:48:02] https://twitter.com/homeiswhereband/status/1387241624699392002/photo/1 I think I’m referring to this post specifically.
[3:03:31] I swear playing I See It Too was supposed to be a bit, and was not my editing choice, but I approve
Next Episode
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Find where to watch it / buy it: https://www.starwars.com/films/solo
(Hint: It’s on Disney+)
Posting on this (perceived) dead website because it's a good bit, and because it's useful for posting links and longer form explainations of things.
Effectively, I'll try to take some notes when I'm editing/reviewing each podcast episode before it comes out. So starting with Episode 12, this will be home to some show notes with links, because we have a lot of videos to reference just for the subject alone.
Will I go back and add show notes for older episodes? Maybe, but that requires me to go back and listen to them, and frankly, I can only handle so much of listening to my own voice, so don't hold your breath
Found this vintage crombie in remarkably good condition at a charity shop. The tag said $13, but the lady at the counter said it was really only $8. I didn’t complain. Seen here with my tweed “business” suit (a $10 find from the amazing summer yard sales in Fresno, CA—if you know, you know), Ben Sherman buttondown ($7 at the Buffalo Exchange in Berkeley, CA), fishnet patterned tights ($5 Macy’s clearance item), and vintage bass weejun loafers (gifted to me). Flashback from 2016 (Modesto, CA).
