Taskill smiled into the darkness, listening to the rain pounding the trees above him, the quiet drip-drip of the stubborn precipitation that bullied its way to the lower branches of the dense, dark wood, and the steady breathing of Taini and Toma. The storm caught them as they were running across the plains. They had tried to outrun it, but failed miserably and were a giggling, breathless, soaked-to-the-bone mess by the time they made it to the treeline.
They laughed, stumbled, fell, and wrung their way to a mossy clearing where they promptly collapsed. The tiny, tanned thief and the hulking, dark-skinned hunter fell asleep within moments. Taskill stayed awake to enjoy the most precious of moments. This was what he loved best, seeing the two people he loved more than anything to ever exist at their most vulnerable. He cherished Taini's soft snores and Toma's silent breathing. The mage felt blessed that he was so trusted, so loved that he was allowed to see them this way.
