I know this is like a cancelable dw opinion but
it kind of irks me when people emphasize that fourteen “isn’t the same as ten!!”
because like. Of course he isn’t. The Doctor has been alive for billions more years and has changed and grown.
I guess it has to do with my personal preference, but I am always a “the Doctor is contiguous; the core is always the same” believer. I like to think that each iteration has differences, but they’re character is always in growth.
so if, impossibly, a “face” (or “self”) came back, that would always be informed by the growth that had happened in the iterations between.
that’s what fourteen/tenagain/whatever is to me. The Doctor returning to an old face/self but it’s not the same, because the Doctor isn’t the same
actor interpretation/intent isn’t everything, but DT did say he tried to bring back the performance and characteristics that people connected with.
the doctor has just lived a bit since then.
