The Frick Collection was established in 1935 in Manhattan, New York. It was the home of industrialist and art patron Henry Clay Frick during his lifetime, and it is now the resting place of the beautiful works of art that he collected. It really is a beautiful place to visit.
It’s a shame it will be losing some of its masterpieces soon enough.
We already know what our thieves are stealing. There are three Vermeers kept there, two in the South Hall and one in the West Gallery. The one their buyer wants is Girl Interrupted at her Music, but the other two on top of it are just icing on the cake. If they have the chance to get more money, who are they to say no?
There is no clue or riddle to this heist. We already know what, when, and where. Instead, there’s something else hidden. Look closely.
If you find what was hidden, message us on the main. The first person to figure it out will get a special prize.
This first little event will last until NEXT WEDNESDAY, but canonically will take place over the evening of February 8th and 9th.
During the day of the 8th, The Forger takes time to study some of the pieces of the Frick Collection, none of the ones they are going to steal, but they watch the patterns of the security guards. With the help of The Specialist, they install cameras of their own in the museum. The cameras watch the security guards and the art they’re looking to steal.
The Spy knows one of the security guards from their past. During his rounds, they talk and the guard is too involved in the conversation to pay attention to anything else. The Muscle is there, having come behind The Spy. They jimmy open a door, breaking a lock so it can be opened from the outside.
The Distraction and The Right Hand are posing as someone interested in donating some rare pieces to the museum. They are talking to one of the curators of the museum, one who normally stays late at the museum to take care of things. The curator invites them to his office, where they can talk specifics in private. This conversation lasts long past closing. The curator isn’t bothered by it, too absorbed in the idea of getting new pieces to display.
Just as the Frick Collection is about to close for the evening, after security has settled down at their monitors, The Getaway Driver storms in, The Medic on their heels. One of the Collection’s employees hit their car and there will be hell to pay. As the scene goes on, The Cat Burglar and The Freeloader sneak in behind them, unnoticed. They’re after the three pieces. They carry a bag with the forgeries in with them.
As soon as those two are in, The Getaway Driver calms down, saying it wasn’t as bad as they expected. They leave without fuss, going back to the car. They circle around the block.
The Hacker and The Muscle are across the street, sitting on a park bench. The Hacker has managed to get into the security system of the Frick -- they’ve gotten into the security system. They turn off alarms. They cause the video footage to loop over and over on the monitors of the security guards.
The Ringleader and The Pickpocket are waiting below the South Hall window, waiting to get the first two pieces out.
There is a lot of freedom here with the first heist. You can roleplay any of the scenes listed, and those beyond with what they do besides it. What did your characters do earlier in the day in New York? Did they run into anyone they knew? Were they relaxed or anxious?
During the heist, your characters should know what they were meant to do. When they are done their parts, they’re meant to get away from the Frick with little fuss. There is a car with a driver besides the Getaway Driver. Whoever is not in the Collection can be waiting in a car or in the city ( we love an alibi ).
If you want any risk or drama to come up, double check with an admin before doing anything too wild ( i.e. character death, getting caught ).
Before we open for interactions, we thought a good way to start getting to know everyone and their characters was with an ask meme ( this one’s for you, Em ) ! We based the questions off of the skeleton names. If you want to participate, reblog this! Be sure to send some to everyone who reblogs this post.
Have fun, go wild!
The Ringleader: What is your greatest failure? Have you grown from it or does it still haunt you?
The Cat Burglar: What was your childhood fantasy? What did you want to be when you grew up? Would seven year-old you be disappointed?
The Pickpocket: What object, if stolen from your purse or wallet or your pocket, would leave you devastated? Why is it so important to you?
The Forger: What comes most naturally to you? Do you ever resent your natural talents?
The Muscle: What is something about you someone wouldn’t know or assume? Why is it hidden?
The Distraction: What is something that you want everyone to know about you? Why don’t they know it?
The Hacker: If you could hack, would you use your skills for good or evil?
The Medic: Help or hurt? Light or dark? Good or bad?
The Freeloader: What are your guilty pleasures? What are your bad habits? Do you want to change these things about you, or are they just things that make you you?
The Right Hand: How do you feel about the team? What ( -- or who ) would you change about it?
The Specialist: Is there any single one person who has changed your life for the better ( or for the worse ) ?
The Spy: Do you have a pet? Why did you name them what you did? ( if you don’t have a pet... why not? )
The Getaway Driver: Besides the obvious, are you the sort of person to follow the rules or break them?
BONUS
The Crestfallen: Would you sacrifice yourself for everyone else? Why? Why not?
